80 non-governmental organizations raised on Sunday alarm bells over the exacerbated humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip due to the blockade and delay in the reconstruction process.
80 NGOs issued a joint statement two years after the donor’s conference was held in Cairo.
The NGOs said the unemployment rate gas gone up as high as 42% and that over 65% of Gaza’s population live below the poverty line, 38% among whom enduring extreme poverty. Around 80% of Gazans also live on aids.
The NGOs attributed the tragic humanitarian situation to the illegitimate blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation on the coastal territory for nearly one decade.
The statement further spoke up against the tough Israeli restrictions on the entry/exit of goods, most notably reconstruction material.
As a result, the reconstruction process has been running very slow at a time when thousands of Palestinian families have gone homeless following the 2014 Israeli offensive on the enclave.
The statement sounded the alarm over the damage inflicted on the infrastructure, most notably power and electricity networks.
The NGOs further denounced the reluctance maintained by the donors as regards pledges to raise funds for Gaza reconstruction.
The situation has gone worse due to the unremitting Israeli attacks on Gaza’s fishermen and farmers.
The organizations warned of the critical upshots of such a tragic humanitarian situation in Gaza particularly on children, women, and elderly civilians.
The statement urged the international community to step up pressure on the Israeli occupation so as to lift the blockade on the people and secure the entry of reconstruction and aid materials into the besieged enclave.
The NGOs called on the donor countries to fulfill their promises and dispatch the pledged funds to Gaza at the soonest time possible so as to boost reconstruction projects and socio-economic growth before it is too late.

Israeli war minister Avigdor Lieberman has said that “his army is not looking for adventures in Gaza or a military escalation with Hamas, but it will strongly respond to every attack from there.”
“We are not looking for adventures and no one wants to push for escalation with Hamas in the Gaza Strip; however, we are determined to protect the citizens of Israel, and on that point there will be no compromise,” Lieberman said Thursday at a Tel Aviv ceremony for army commanders “All fire from Gaza into the sovereign land of the State of Israel will get a forceful response.
Hamas rules the Strip with a firm hand and when it wants to get something or prevent something, it knows how to do that,” he threatened.
