The Israeli navy on Sunday morning opened heavy machinegun fire on Palestinian fishermen off Gaza shore.
A PIC journalist quoted local sources as saying that Israeli gunboats opened fire on Palestinian fishermen and vessels sailing in Gaza waters.
A group of Palestinian fishermen survived the bullet attack while their boat sustained damage. The fishermen were forced to go back ashore for fear of being killed.
The attack is another chain in the series of Israeli violations of the Cairo-brokered ceasefire deal struck in the wake of the 2014 Israeli offensive on the besieged coastal enclave.

Two Palestinian young people suffered injuries when Israeli soldiers opened fire at them in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Medical sources said that a young man named Mohamed Qashqish, from Halhoul town in al-Khalil, suffered a bullet injury in the leg after soldiers opened fire at him during his presence near the separation wall in Dar Salah town, east of Bethlehem.
The sources added that the young man was evacuated to a local hospital to receive medical treatment.
In Gaza, a young woman suffered a trauma and slight bruises when soldiers in the military post of Sofa, east of Rafah, opened fire close to her.
Local sources reported seeing a girl falling to the ground near the border fence after soldiers fired a volley of bullets around her.
They added that the soldiers prevented an ambulance crew from evacuating the girl for more than half an hour.
The Palestinian police, for their part, conducted an investigation into the incident to know the reason for the presence of the girl in the area.

Israeli soldiers opened fire, on Thursday morning, on a number of Palestinian farmers in their lands, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, and east of Gaza city.
The WAFA Palestinian News Agency said the soldiers, stationed across the border fence, fired many live rounds on the farmers, while working in their own lands, forcing them away.
WAFA said the two latest attacks targeted Palestinian lands east of Khan Younis city, in the southern part of the coastal region, and east of Gaza city.
The Israeli army conducts frequent violations against Palestinians, and their lands, in areas close to the border fence, in the northern and eastern parts of the Gaza Strip, an issue that prevents dozens of families from planning their lands.
Similar attacks also target Palestinian fishers in Gaza territorial waters, in direct violation of the Oslo accords, and every ceasefire agreement.

The southeastern border of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday evening saw intensive Israeli military moves as flares were lightening up its sky.
An official field observer told Quds Press that the border area between Kissufim military post and al-Sanatti area, east of Khan Younis town, had witnessed on Wednesday night active movement of military troops and armored vehicles, including tanks.
As usual during such overnight military moves, he said, flare bombs were heavily fired over the area.

Nine Israeli army vehicles on Wednesday morning moved some 150 meters into eastern al-Bureij refugee camp, in central Gaza Strip.
A PIC journalist quoted eyewitnesses as saying that four Israeli army bulldozers, three military tanks, and two troop-carriers moved 150 meters into Palestinians’ cultivated lands in eastern al-Bureij camp and leveled the area.
Shortly afterwards, the Israeli occupation troops moved southwards to the border area in Deir al-Balah city.

Israeli naval forces detained Tuesday night two Palestinian fishermen off the coast of Beit Lahya north of Gaza Strip, while fishing boats were targeted while sailing off Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
Palestinian media sources identified the two detained fishermen as Aahed and Munis Zayid. Israeli forces also confiscated their fishing boat before taking them to an unknown location, the sources added.
Meanwhile, Palestinian fishing boats came under fire while sailing off the coast of Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza Strip. No injuries were reported during the attack.
However, the fishermen were forced to leave the sea. The IOF carries out attacks on land and at sea of the Gaza Strip on a near-daily basis, often putting Palestinian fishermen and farmers and their livelihoods at risk.

The contractors union in Gaza said that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) would start to allow shipments of construction cement into the Strip early next week.
In press remarks to the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) on Monday, head of the union Osama Kahil stated that pledges were made in this regard following efforts made by the Palestinian ministry of civil affairs.
Kahil added that these cement shipments, which would be used for specific projects, were supposed to arrive in Gaza last week, but the IOA postponed their entry until next week.
He pointed out that Turkish, US, German and Qatari institutions recently received some truckloads of cement for their projects in the Strip.
However, the IOA has not decided yet to allow in cement for civilians, factories and merchants, according to him.

On Tuesday morning, several Israeli army vehicles, and bulldozers, invaded Palestinian agricultural lands, east of Gaza city, and uprooted them, in addition to firing live rounds and smoke bombs.
The Palestinian News & Info Agency (WAFA) said three Israeli tanks, and three armored bulldozers, advanced approximately 150 meters into Palestinian farmlands, and uprooted them.
WAFA added that the army vehicles came from “Nahal Oz” military base, across the border fence, east of the Sheja’eyya neighborhood, east of Gaza city.
The soldiers also demolished a concrete wall, near the Karni Crossing, east of Gaza city, and fired smoke bombs in addition to several live rounds.
The army carries out frequent limited invasions into Palestinian lands, close to the border fence, in the northern and eastern parts of the Gaza Strip, and prevents the Palestinian from entering their own lands.

International organizations in the Gaza Strip received a cement delivery on Saturday, while a suspension on cement imports for the private sector was still being enforced by Israeli authorities.
Head of the Palestinian Contractors Union Osama Kahil told Ma’an that 2,000 tons of cement entered the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom crossing on Saturday, and he expected further cement deliveries to enter in the coming week due to efforts by the Palestinian Ministry of Civil Affairs.
The shipments of cement would allow reconstruction efforts by international organizations to continue in the besieged coastal enclave, and return jobs to 40,000 construction workers who have been out of work since the last cement delivery, Kahil said.
Reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip have also been “expanded to include Turkish, German, and American plans in addition to the UN and Qatari plans of reconstruction,” Kahil added.
He assured efforts by the Palestinian Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein al-Sheikh were ongoing to continue the flow of cement through Kerem Shalom.
A spokesperson for Israel’s Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) told Ma’an that the suspension of construction materials entering the Gaza Strip was still being enforced due to “exploitation of construction materials by Hamas,” and that the ban would still be in place “until the issue is addressed.”
They added that the suspension only affected the private sector, and that entry for international projects was proceeding as usual.
Saturday’s delivery comes one week after it was revealed Israeli forces uncovered and destroyed a tunnel passing from the Gaza Strip into Israel, once a gag order by Israel’s government was lifted on its discovery.
The tunnel -- the first to be found since Israel's devastating military offensive on the coastal enclave in 2014 -- was reportedly discovered one week prior to the publication of the incident, around the time Israel suspended delivery of cement into the Gaza Strip.
Israeli authorities have previously accused the Gaza Strip's de facto ruling party Hamas of stealing reconstruction material to sell on the black market and use to build tunnels.
Reconstruction efforts following the the 50-day war have been painfully slow -- hindered by Israel's blockade, ongoing disputes between Gaza's de facto leaders Hamas and the Fatah-dominated PA, and a severe shortage of foreign assistance.

Israeli navy ships opened fire, earlier Monday, on a number of Palestinian fishing boats in Gaza waters, in the northern part of the coastal region.
The fishers had to sail back to shore in order to avoid further assaults and violations; the attack led to property damage but no injuries.
On April 3, Israel unilaterally decided to extend the fishing zone, off some parts of the Gaza coast, to nine miles, instead of six.
The areas, where the fishing zone was increased, extend from Wadi Gaza, west of Gaza city, until the western part of Rafah, in the southern part of the coastal region.
Israel frequently and unilaterally reduced it to six, then three, and to six again, before eventually increasing it, in certain areas, to nine nautical miles.
Under the Oslo agreements, the Palestinians are supposed to be able to fish and sail within twenty nautical miles, but Israel kept unilaterally decreasing it.

The Mezan Center for Human Rights on Sunday raised alarm bells over the surge in Israeli attacks on Palestinian fishermen in the blockaded Gaza Strip. The Mezan center spoke out against the arbitrary abductions and confiscations to which Gaza’s fishermen have been subjected on a quasi-daily basis.
The most recent among these violations occurred on Sunday morning as the Israeli occupation navy arrested two fishermen in western Beit Lahia, to the north of the Gaza Strip, and confiscated their vessels after they opened fire on the fishing boats setting sail off Gaza shores.
Mezan identified the two fishermen as 23-year-old Ibrahim al-Sultan and 19-year-old Urans al-Sultan. The center quoted Uran’s father as stating that his son and relative were arrested moments after they threw their nets within 600 meters of Gaza’s waters. The Israeli navy boats chased them down and opened fire on the boats before they forced the two fishermen to take off their clothes and swim towards the Israeli gunboat. The two fishermen were forced to leave the area for fear of being killed while the occupation navy seized their boats.
The Mezan Center spoke up for Palestinians’ right to set sail across Gaza waters, adding that Palestinian fishermen have been the permanent target of Israeli attacks despite an earlier deal expanding the fishing zone to nine nautical miles.

Palestinian non-governmental organizations (NOGs) strongly condemned on Sunday the Israeli continued ban of construction materials’ access into Gaza Strip, warning against its serious implications on the deteriorating humanitarian situation.
The NGOs pointed out in a statement issued Sunday that Israeli authorities have tightened restrictions on Gaza’s commercial imports and exports, further exacerbating the economic, social, and humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave.
Gaza Strip has reached an unprecedented level of food-insecurity, unemployment, and poverty rates, the statement added.
The statement warned of the serious implications of the slow reconstruction process, adding that thousands of homes and health and educational facilities, which were destroyed during Israel’s 2014 aggression, are still in need for rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The NGOs said that the international mechanism for Gaza reconstruction has deepened the suffering of Gaza people and imposed more restrictions on the reconstruction process. The organizations also expressed concern over the donor countries’ failure to fulfill their financial pledges.
The statement called on the international community to act urgently to end the Israeli siege on Gaza and to accelerate its reconstruction.

Israeli naval forces on Sunday morning detained two Palestinian fishermen off the coast of the Gaza Strip and seized their fishing boat, local sources told Ma'an.
Locals told Ma'an that Israeli naval forces opened fire on fishing boats, and detained Oranus al-Sultan and Ibrahim al-Sultan and took them to unknown location.
The sources added that Israeli forces seized fishing equipment and the boat.
As part of Israel's near-decade long blockade of the coastal enclave since 2007, Palestinian fishermen have been required to work within a limited "designated fishing zone" off the coast, which was recently extended to nine nautical miles.
Israeli forces regularly detain Palestinian fisherman off the coast of Gaza working within the fishing zone, generally for alleged security reasons.
According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, Israeli forces detained 71 fishermen and confiscated 22 fishing boats throughout 2015.
The center said that Israeli naval forces also opened fire on Palestinian fishermen at least 139 times over the course of the year, wounding 24 and damaging 16 fishing boats.
"These attacks occurred in a time where the fishers did not pose any threat to the Israeli naval troops, as they were doing their job to secure a living," the center said.
