Israeli navy ships opened fire, on Thursday at dawn, on a number of Palestinian fishing boats in Palestinian territorial waters, in the northern part of the coastal region, and kidnapped one fisherman.
The Palestinian Fishers Syndicate said one fisher, identified as Abdul-Aziz Sa’dallah, was kidnapped from his boat in Beit Lahia Sea, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The fisher was in his boat less than one nautical mile from the shore; his boats was partially damaged by the navy fire.
According to the Safa News Agency, the navy also attempted to kidnap another fisher, who was on the same boat, but armed resistance fighters opened fire at the navy ships, forcing them away from the shore, and preventing them from confiscating the boat.
Fire directed at IDF patrol boat off Gaza coast
Israeli naval forces came under fire from the Gaza coast during the arrest of two Palestinian fishermen who entered restricted waters; Israel did not return fire at the source of the gunshots; one Palestinian was wounded in the arrest and was evacuated for treatment and interrogation.
Gunfire from the Gaza coast directed at an IDF ship occurred during the arrest of two Palestinian fishermen Thursday morning. There were no casualties or damage reported.
The Palestinian vessel deviated from the area permitted for fishing in the northern Gaza Strip near Beit Lahiya. A naval force approached the vessel and began procedure for detaining the occupants, which concluded with warning shots being fired at the fishermen. One of the men in the boat sustained injuries in the process and was evacuated for medical treatment and interrogation.
The shots were fired in the direction of the IDF ship from the Strip's coast when the second Palestinian returned to the designated fishing area.
The incident, which occurred about a kilometer off the coast was captured on recording in which the sound of gunfire toward the ship can be heard. According to the Palestinians, both of the men in the vessel were indeed fishermen. However, the incident occurred on the maritime border with Israel, where the presence of fishermen is strictly prohibited.
Gaza fishermen are restricted in the distances they are allowed to travel from the coast by Israeli authorities. Detention of fishermen for violations is commonplace, but shooting at IDF ships during such incidents is rare.
No group has claimed responsibility for the gunfire and Israeli forces did not return fire at the source of the shooting.
The incident occurred four days after a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in Sderot. The IDF responded to the rocket and attacked dozens of targets in the Strip. Senior officials in the IDF said that following the wave of retaliatory strikes, that Hamas "suffered the worst blow since Operation Protective Edge."

A Palestinian young man on Wednesday suffered a bullet injury when Israeli soldiers near Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing, north of the Gaza Strip, opened fire at him, with no known reason.
Medical sources said that a 30-year-old man suffered a moderate foot injury near the crossing, without providing further details about the incident.
The man, whose identity is still unknown, was rushed to a local hospital in Gaza. A spokesperson for the Israeli army claimed they had no information about the incident and would investigate it.

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) mounting armored vehicles advanced into southern Gaza Strip areas on Wednesday morning.
The PIC reporter in eastern Rafah said that IOF soldiers advanced 50 meters into the border area in a number of military bulldozers and excavators.
He added that Israeli drones were seen flying over the area during the incursion as bulldozers started levelling land.
IOF soldiers routinely raid border areas to survey and level land while Palestinian farmers come under IOF gunfire on daily basis.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned on Monday the Israeli air strikes on the blockaded Gaza Strip, dubbing such an escalation “a horrendous crime.”
“We strongly condemn the airstrikes launched by the Israeli occupation army on Gaza Strip and hold Israel responsible for such a serious military escalation,” OIC said in a statement.
OIC said the shelling is one of the many heinous crimes and aggressions perpetrated by the Israeli occupation with no political, legal, or moral deterrent.
The organization slammed the illegal Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza as part of a policy of collective punishment against the Palestinian people.
OIC urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to urgently intervene and make serious steps to force Israel to cease its crimes and aggressions against the Palestinians and observe international law and legitimacy.
Overnight and at noon time on Sunday Israeli occupation warplanes launched over 60 airstrikes on northern Gaza, inflicting human casualties and material damage.
Arab League Condemns Recent Bombing of Gaza
The Arab League, on Tuesday, condemned the recent Israeli army’s shelling of several different locations in the Gaza Strip, and the damage incurred on Palestinian property.
Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Ben Helli called on the international community to immediately intervene and put an end to what he described as “Israel’s arrogance”.
He said that Israel is carrying out a new and deliberate violation, every now and then, and spreading fear among Palestinians while maintaining its brutal blockade of the Strip.
Ben Helli said, “Commissioner General for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Pierre Krähenbühl will visit the Arab League early September, where he will present a report on UNRWA’s work and the crisis it is going through.”
The official said that Israel chose the timing to provoke Palestinians. The air strikes took place on the 47th anniversary of Al-Aqsa Mosque Arson.
“Al-Aqsa Mosque not only matters to 10 million Palestinians or 150 million Arabs, but to 300 million Muslims around the world,” he explained.
The Arab League, he said, along with the Arab and Muslim countries, is in a diplomatic battle in all international forums; the United Nations and UNESCO, to retrieve Palestinians rights and end the occupation.
He hoped, according to WAFA, that the active countries in the Security Council and the international community will have an important role in realizing the dangerous acts of Israel and the danger of instability in the Middle East.
“The Palestinian cause shall always remain the base and the key to achieve security and stability in the region; something that the international community must realize before it is too late,” he added.

The Israeli occupation army on Monday evening opened heavy machinegun fire on Palestinian farmers in eastern Khan Younis city, to the south of the blockaded Gaza Strip.
Reporting from Gaza, a PIC news correspondent said the Israeli soldiers stationed at military watchtowers in front of the border fence fired at Palestinian farmers and lands without prior notifications.
The attack is another chain in the series of Israeli violations of the ceasefire deal struck in the wake of the 2014 offensive on the besieged coastal enclave of Gaza.

One of the targets struck by the IDF in Gaza
Just days after Turkish parliament ratifies Israel-Turkey reconciliation deal, Ankara strongly condemns Israel's retaliatory attacks on Gaza after rockets fired into Sderot, prompting response from Israel telling Turkey to 'think twice before criticizing. Normalization with Turkey doesn't mean we won't defend Israel's citizens.'
Israel responded Monday evening to a condemnation issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry slamming Israeli retaliatory attacks Gaza the previous night following rockets fired from the Strip earlier into Sderot.
"The normalization of our relations with Turkey does not mean that we will remain silent in the face of its baseless condemnations," said a statement from the Israeli foreign ministry. "Israel will continue to defend its civilians from all rocket fire on our territory, in accordance with international law and our conscience. Turkey should think twice before criticizing the military actions of others."
The statement came several hours after a Turkish news agency quoted the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Monday strongly condemning Israel's actions.
In a statement released by the ministry it was said that the new Israel-Turkey reconciliation deal—which was officially ratified by the Turkish parliament at the end of the week—does not change Ankara’s fundamental stance toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“The normalization of relations with Israel does not mean that we have to remain silent about attacks against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” the statement read. “On the contrary, we will continue to defend the Palestinian issue in the face of Israeli actions which violate international law and are contrary to basic human morality.”
Shortly after Israel's original response, other senior officials were quoted as saying: "We have clarified for Turkey that we will not allow them to lash out at us. Overall the reconciliation with Turkey will continue as usual and will not slow down. There is no need to become excited over the damning criticism by Turkey. We never though Erdogan would become a Zionist overnight. Obviously he has to pay lip service to his Hamas allies. By the same token, we are not suckers and we won’t ignore the baseless condemnation of the legitimate attacks on Gaza.”
Israel launched a series of fresh strikes on Hamas targets throughout Sunday night after a Code Red rocket alert was sounded in Sderot and Sha'ar Hanegev just before 2:30pm on Sunday.
Shortly afterwards, an explosion was heard, and a rocket was found between two residential houses in Sderot. There were no injuries or damage, though forces were immediately dispatched to the area.
The response of the IDF signalled a departure from the norm as it usually retaliates once during the hours immediately following the rocket fire or the night after. On this occasion, explosions could be heard throughout the night by residents of towns bordering Gaza.
The strikes were predominantly carried out by the Israel Air Force and Israeli artillery units on a Hamas military wing position in Beit Hanoun in the north Gaza Strip, from which the rocket was launched earlier that afternoon. One of the targets was a military outpost belonging to Hamas’s security apparatus.
Commenting on the attacks, high-ranking Israeli officials said that "the hits that Hamas took last night are the hardest they've taken in Operation Protective Edge."
Just a few hour after the Hamas rocket fire into Israel, the organization’s military wing staged a parade in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip during which they presented rockets produced by the group and bragged about terrorists from the commando unit. Tiny prison cells were also exhibited at the parade bearing the words, written in Hebrew: “Prison for the enemy,” an apparent hint at future kidnapping attempts.
Turkey slams Israel's attacks on civilians in Gaza
The Turkish foreign ministry has strongly denounced Israel's "excessive" bombing of civilian areas in the Gaza Strip, stressing that its persistence in targeting and hurting innocent people are "inexcusable under any pretext."
"Normalizing our country's relations with Israel does not mean we will remain silent over attacks targeting the Palestinian people in Gaza; on the contrary, we will continue to defend the Palestinian cause in the face of Israel's practices that go against the international law and the humanitarian conscience," the ministry stated in a press release on Monday.
The ministry warned that such attacks would paralyze the efforts to maintain peace and calm in Gaza. The Israeli occupation army on Sunday night waged a barrage of aerial and artillery attacks on different targets in Gaza at the pretext of responding to the fall of one projectile in Sderot settlement.

The overnight strikes of the Israeli Air Force in retaliation for the rocket fired at Sderot from the Strip were unusual in their scale; Hamas has replied by holding Israel 'responsible for the escalation in the Gaza Strip.'
Hamas's spokesman in the Gaza Strip, Sami Abu Zuhri, responded to the Israeli Air Force (IAF) retaliatory strikes by saying overnight Sunday, "The escalation is the Israeli occupation's desire to create new equations in the Gaza Strip." The IAF attacks are in response to a rocket fired from the north Gaza Strip at Sderot on Sunday afternoon.
Abu Zuhri stated further, "We hold (Israel) responsible for the escalation in the Gaza Strip and we stress that its aggression will not succeed in breaking the will of our people and dictate terms to the resistance."
The IAF strikes are noteworthy in their breadth. Normally, the IDF retaliates once, in the hours following the rocket attack or in the night afterwards.
Israeli army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a statement that the military "remains committed to the stability of the region and operated in order to bring quiet to the people of southern Israel."
"When terrorists in Hamas' Gaza Strip, driven by a radical agenda based on hatred, attack people in the middle of the summer vacation, their intentions are clear—to inflict pain, cause fear and to terrorize," Lerner said.
Further statements from the IDF Spokesperson Unit stated that rocket fire at Sderot "constitutes a threat to the security of Israeli citizens and violates the sovereignty of the State of Israel…the terrorist organization Hamas is sovereign in the Gaza Strip, and it bears the responsibility for all terrorist activity emanating from there."
Some reports state that one of the targets attacked by the IAF was an outpost of the national security forces belonging to Hamas. Others were outposts of Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Palestinian press has reported that a 17-year-old boy was lightly injured and three further children suffered from panic attacks.

60 Israeli airstrikes rocked the northern corners of the blockaded Gaza Strip overnight Sunday, resulting in injuries.
Spokesperson for the Gaza-based Palestinian Health Ministry, Ashraf al-Qudra, said a 17-year-old boy was injured with missile shrapnel in his feet at the same time as a state of traumatic panic overwhelmed three children for fear of being killed in the heavy shelling.
Interior Ministry spokesman Iyad al-Bazm said the Israeli warplanes launched over 60 airstrikes on northern Gaza Strip. The Israeli army further targeted the enclave with heavy shelling.
The strikes targeted training sites for the Palestinian resistance groups of Hamas, al-Quds Brigades, the Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, among others.
Sounds of violent explosions were detected in northern Gaza Strip. Remarkable material damage was inflicted on Palestinian lands and infrastructure. Israeli warplanes kept hovering over the territory, signaling the imminent launch of other attacks.
The Interior Ministry spokesman added that the security forces and police have been providing the casualties and civilians with the needed assistance.
The escalating strikes occurred a few hours after reports were released on an Israeli air raid over Beit Hanoun at around 10 p.m, without immediate details on possible casualties or material damage.
Israeli F16 warplanes fired two missiles in Beit Hanoun. 10 artillery shells also rocked the city’s eastern corner moments after.
Earlier in the day, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Ashraf al-Qudra, announced that a young Palestinian man in his twenties was injured in his head as a result of an Israeli artillery shelling targeting a resistance training site in Beit Hanoun.
Local sources said three artillery shells fired by the Israeli occupation army targeted an agricultural land in al-Misriyine neighborhood in Beit Hanoun. Furthermore, Israeli artillery shells landed in the Filistin training ground which Hamas fighters use for resistance drills.
The missiles were fired minutes after the Israeli army alleged that a rocket was launched from the Gaza Strip and hit the city of Sderot, with no injuries or damage reported by the Israeli army.
The Israeli occupation forces have often launched airstrikes at several sites allegedly used by Palestinian resistance groups in the besieged coastal territory in response to rockets fired from the enclave.
Israel Carries Out 50 Strikes Against Gaza, Five Palestinians Injured
The Israeli Air Force carried out, Sunday, at least fifty military strikes wounding five Palestinians in different parts of the Gaza Strip, reportedly after a shell was fired earlier from Gaza into an open area in Sderot in the Negev.
Two of the targeted areas in the besieged Gaza Strip are said to be camps runs by the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.
The Israeli strikes also targeted the Agricultural College and farmlands in Beit Hanoun, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, in addition to hitting two sites run by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), and the al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad.
The army also fired several artillery shells into open areas, and agricultural lands in different parts of the besieged and impoverished coastal region.
On Sunday evening, the army bombarded Beit Hanoun, in the northern part of the coastal region, and the Sudaniyya area, northwest of Gaza, wounding three Palestinians,
The Israeli army claimed that it struck Hamas sites in retaliation to shells fired into Sderot, and held Hamas fully responsible for the escalation.
