Ibrahim Hammad, 22, has been wounded five times during his participation in the Great March of Return in the Gaza Strip, but his last injury has killed his hopes of standing again on his feet.
On July 5, Hammad was injured by a bullet that penetrated his thigh and exploded causing severe damages to his intestines and rectum.
At the beginning of the interview Hammad seemed to be somehow fine while narrating what happened with him on the border east of al-Bureij refugee camp before he started to scream hysterically as he felt horrible pain. A nurse rushed to the room and injected him with painkillers.
Three surgeries
Hammad has undergone three surgeries to remove shrapnel from his intestines and rectum. The doctors tried to save part of them from complete damage, and his wounds are still open and clearly visible.
Hammad said, "I was a long distance away from the border fence. I felt like an electric shock hit my body and fell to the ground. They took me to the nearest medical tent then moved me to the hospital."
Hammad called on the Great March of Return organizers to stand by his side and help him get the treatment he needs after he has been injured five times in the protests.
In the first time Hammad was injured by shrapnel in the left leg and in the second and third by tear gas canisters to the head, while in the fourth time he suffered nervous convulsions after inhaling poisonous gas.
Life at stake
Hasan Hammad, Ibrahim's brother, said that the family is having difficulty bringing Ibrahim the medical supplies and medications he needs due to their scarcity in Gaza hospitals and due to the family's bad financial conditions.
He added that Ibrahim has been suffering from unbearable pains for about 14 days and that his brother's life is in real danger.
The Israeli snipers lined on the eastern border of the Gaza Strip have repeatedly used explosive bullets to target peaceful protesters in the Great March of Return killing and injuring hundreds, including children.

The Hamas Movement has affirmed that its struggle is against the Israeli occupation as an entity occupying the Palestinian land and defiling its holy places and not against the Jews in the world or Judaism as a religion.
In a press release on Monday, Hamas said it had already condemned attacks on Jewish places of worship that happened in other countries.
The Movement also said that the March of Return rallies are peaceful events aimed at advocating the Palestinian rights of return and demanding an end to the blockade imposed on Gaza, denouncing Israel’s persistence in targeting and killing Gaza protesters.
It urged all the Palestinian masses to abide by the decisions made by the Higher National Committee of the March of Return.
Hammad: Hamas’s resistance is only directed against occupation
Member of Hamas’s political bureau Fathi Hammad has said that his Movement’s resistance is only directed at the Israeli occupation that has usurped the Palestinian land and desecrated its holy sites, calling such position “an unwavering policy.”
“Such position is always expressed by Hamas through its political behavior and confirmed by its political document,” Hammad stated on Monday.
He also affirmed that all forms of resistance against the Israeli occupation would continue through armed or peaceful means.

Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) shot a group of Palestinian youth who were demonstrating near the eastern border of the southern Gaza Strip on Sunday.
According to Israeli website Walla, the army fired at a number of young men as they approached the security fence.
The eastern border of the Gaza Strip is experiencing a state of extreme tension following violent confrontations between Palestinian demonstrators and IOF during the Great Return March, a protest against the 12-year siege of Gaza.

According to the MoH, since the start of the demonstrations in Gaza, 312 people have been killed including 61 children and 32,934 injured.
WHO was able to verify patients records of 30,135 injured people and 313 deaths. 7,215 people have suffered from gunshot wounds, of which 6,309 (87%) presented limb wounds.
In June, 50% out of the essential medications were reported at less than one-month supply at the MoH Central Drug Store (CDS); out of which 47% were completely depleted.
The electricity situation has improved given the recent efforts to connect the grid lines to nine out of the 14 public hospitals. These hospitals now have access to up to 22 hours of electricity every day.
In order to respond to respond to the growing health needs in Gaza, the Health Cluster requires a total of $ 28.2 million. Out of this, $ 16.2 million has been received, leaving a funding gap of $ 12 million. Further information can be found here: https://bit.ly/2HWPjwz.
An additional $1.5 million is required to ensure the minimum needed resources are available to prepare for and respond to the first 96 hours of a potential escalation.
The Health Cluster oPt Humanitarian Response Plan, requires $42 million USD and only 30% has been funded by the end of June 2019.

A day after Israeli forces “mistakenly” shot and killed a Palestinian security guard trying to prevent protesters from reaching the border fence with Israel, thousands of people turned out Friday midday to protest the escalation in ‘Great Return March’ protests in northern, southern and eastern Gaza.
One Palestinian couple used the occasion to celebrate their wedding, with their cheers and songs interjected by Israeli tear gas and shooting.
At least 40 Palestinians were shot and injured, while dozens of others suffered from tear-gas inhalation, as Israeli occupation forces suppressed protesters along the eastern fence of the besieged Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian ministry of Health in Gaza.
A protester in Rafah was critically injured by live gunfire fired by Israeli soldiers towards the demonstrators.
Some local sources have reported that as many as 33 Palestinians were hit with live ammunition at Friday’s protests, and up to 55 total injured.
The protests took place as delegates from Egypt arrived in the besieged coastal Strip to try to negotiate with the Hamas leadership.
The Egyptians are working with the Israeli administration to try to get Hamas to agree to continue to hold to a fragile truce with Israel, which was broken the day before by Israeli forces who killed a civil official in Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.
28-year-old Palestinian Mahmoud al-Adham was shot and killed by Israeli forces Thursday near Beit Hanoun in the northern part of the Strip, while trying to stop Palestinian teens who were going near the fence marking the border with Israel.
The Al-Qassam Brigades said that it would not let the death go “unpunished”.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “I prefer that there be calm. But we are preparing for a campaign that is not only broad but also surprising.”
Israel agreed to expand the fishing zone to 15 miles off the coast of Gaza – far less than what had been negotiated in previous signed agreements. In addition, Israeli authorities had recently agreed to allow more permits for some Palestinian laborers to enter Israel to work.
The 13-year old siege on the Gaza Strip has led to more than 80% unemployment, and a severe economic crisis that has been exacerbated by Israel’s periodic bombing campaigns against the imrpisoned and besieged population – more than half of whom are children.

Israeli forces have opened fire on Palestinian protesters gathering near the fence between the besieged Gaza Strip and the Israeli-occupied territories, leaving dozens of people injured.
Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesman for the Gazan Health Ministry, said on Friday that 33 protesters had been injured by live fire during the “Great March of Return” protests. He added that Israeli forces inflicted different types of injuries on 22 other protesters. The rallies have been held every week since March 30 last year. The Palestinians demand the right to return of those driven out of their homeland by Israeli aggression. video |
Israeli troops have killed at least 305 Palestinians since the beginning of the rallies and wounded more than 17,000 others, according to the Gazan Health Ministry.
In March, a United Nations (UN) fact-finding mission found that Israeli forces committed rights violations during their crackdown against the Palestinian protesters in Gaza that may amount to war crimes.
Gaza has been under Israeli siege since June 2007, which has caused a decline in living standards.
Israel has also launched three major wars against the enclave since 2008, killing thousands of Gazans each time and shattering the impoverished territory’s already poor infrastructure.
Dozens injured by Israeli gunfire in Gaza Return March
A number of Palestinian citizens were injured on Friday when the Israeli occupation forces heavily opened fire at the peaceful protesters taking part in the Great March of Return on Gaza border.
The Ministry of Health said that 55 Palestinian protesters were injured and two ambulances were deliberately targeted with tear gas canisters and live bullets.
Hundreds of Palestinians marched along the borderline between the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories on the 66th Friday of the Great March of Return to renew their call for allowing the refugees to return and lifting the siege on Gaza.
Since the start of Gaza's border protests on 30 March 2018, the Israeli occupation forces have killed 306 Palestinians and injured over 31,000.

Gaza rulers reject Israel apology for killing one of their operatives, vow to 'avenge' death that IDF said was result of 'misidentification'; thousands of Palestinians protest along Gaza border
The Israel Defense Forces on Friday increased the number of Iron Dome anti-missile batteries in the south as Hamas threatened revenge for IDF shooting and killing one of its operatives near the Gaza-Israel border on Thursday.
Israel later apologized for the incident, saying the operative had been "misidentified."
Hamas, which rules Gaza, rejected Israel's apology for the killing of the operative, with a senior group official telling protesters at the Strip's border fence with Israel on Friday that, "despite the apology, we will avenge the killing of the military activist."
More than 6,000 Palestinians demonstrated Friday along the fence as part of the regular "March of Return" protests.
The demonstrators threw stones and explosive devices. Palestinians protesters even documented a Molotov cocktail being hurled at an IDF jeep.
“Two Palestinians approached the area of the border fence earlier in the morning in the northern Gaza Strip, behind them was a Hamas restraint operative, who was supposed to take the men back to Gaza,” said the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit in a statement Thursday.
"An initial inquiry suggests that the IDF troops who arrived at the location misidentified the Hamas restraint operative to be an armed terrorist and fired as a result of this misunderstanding. The incident will be reviewed," it said.
"We will not allow this shooting to go without a response, and Israel will pay for its actions," the terror group said in a statement.
"Israel intentionally fired at one of our members while he was carrying out his duties. We've launched an investigation into this crime."
The killing of the gunman came just as a temporary ceasefire agreement between the two sides has come into effect between Israel and Hamas, which was preceded by over 100 fires in southern Israel which broke out as a result of incendiary balloons launched from Gaza.
However, recent data from Israeli authorities show that the number of fires caused by incendiary balloons from Gaza have gone down in 2019, compared to 2018.
