Three Palestinians were killed and dozens others injured on Friday when the Israeli occupation forces violently quelled the Great March of Return on Gaza border.

The PIC reporter said, quoting Gaza Ministry of Health, that Mohammed al-Jahjouh, 16, Maher Yasin, a 40-year-old disabled man, and Abdulaziz Abu Shari'a, 28, died of live bullet wounds. video

At least 40 Palestinians were injured by Israeli gunfire and teargas canisters, including two journalists and four paramedics, he added.

Hundreds of Palestinians marched on the 39th Friday of the Great March of Return along the border fence between the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories.

The Higher National Committee for the Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege earlier in the week called on the Palestinians in Gaza to take part in Friday's protests and show solidarity with the Palestinian people in the West Bank.

The committee released a statement praising the latest anti-occupation operations and the sacrifices made by the West Bank Palestinians, and calling for escalating all forms of resistance against the occupation.

The committee stressed that the Great March of Return will maintain its popular and peaceful character and will continue until its main objectives are achieved, particularly breaking the 13-year-long Gaza blockade.

Since the start of Gaza border protests on 30 March, the Israeli occupation forces have killed 239 Palestinians, including 44 children and 5 women, and injured 25,700.

A Palestinian teen was shot and killed by Israeli forces, while at least 40 others sustained injuries with Israeli live fire, and dozens suffered tear-gas inhalation as Israeli forces suppressed the 39th Friday of the return marches across the eastern borders of the besieged Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that Muhammad Muin al-Jahjouh,16, was shot and killed by Israeli forces at the eastern borders of Gaza, while 40 Palestinians were injured with Israeli bullets.

The ministry added that a journalist and a paramedic were among those injured.

Israeli forces opened live fire and tear-gas bombs directly targeting Palestinian protesters gathered at the eastern borders of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, and in Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip.

"The Great March of Return" protests were launched on March 30th by thousands of Palestinian civilians in Gaza -- which has suffered from a decade-long Israeli siege -- who took to the borders to demand their right of return as refugees to their original homelands, now in present-day Israel.

Israeli Soldiers Injure Several Palestinians Near Tubas
Picture
Israeli soldiers chased, on Tuesday evening, many Palestinians in Tammoun town, south of Tubas in northeastern West Bank, and injured some of them.

Media sources in Tubas said the soldiers attacked many Palestinians, who protested the invasion, and fired many gas bombs and concussion grenades at them, in addition to chasing several others.

They added that one Palestinian fell while the soldiers were chasing him, and suffered a fracture in one of his legs.

The soldiers also caused many Palestinians to suffer the effects of teargas inhalation.

Furthermore, the army invaded and violently searched many homes in Tammoun, and interrogated the families while inspecting their ID cards.

In related news, the soldiers attacked many shop owners at the entrance of the al-‘Arroub refugee camp, north of the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The soldiers also sprayed homes with waste-water mixed with chemicals and fired live rounds at protesters in the refugee camp.

In the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Navy fired live rounds at fishing boats in Palestinian territorial waters near Rafah, in the southern part of the coastal region.

Medical sources confirmed that 22 Palestinians were injured, 3 of whom were injured with Israeli live bullets and 19 with rubber-coated steel bullets and tear-gas suffocation.

Palestinian protesters gathered at the northern borders of the Gaza Strip to take part in protests in an attempt to break the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

On 38th Friday of Great March of Return and Breaking Siege, Israeli Forces Wound 120 Civilians, including 20 Children, 2 Women, 1 Journalist and 2 Paramedics
Picture
On Friday evening, 14 December 2018, Israeli forces wounded 120 Palestinian civilians, including 11 children, 1 woman and 2 paramedics in the peaceful demonstrations in the eastern Gaza Strip despite the decreasing intensity of the demonstrations there for the sixth week consecutively and absence of most means usually used during the demonstrations since the beginning of the Return and Breaking the Siege March 8 months ago.

According to observations by PCHR’s fieldworkers, for the seventh week since the beginning of the Return March on 30 March 2018, the demonstrators abstained from burning tires while the attempts to cross the border fence and throw stones and incendiary balloons were completely absent.

Though the demonstrators were around tens of meters away from the border fence, the Israeli forces who stationed in prone positions and military jeeps along the fence continued to use excessive force against the demonstrators by opening fire and firing teargas canisters at them, without the later posing any imminent threat or danger to the life of soldiers.

On 14 December 2018, the incidents were as follows:

At approximately 14:30, thousands of civilians, including women, children and entire families, started swarming to the five encampments established by the Supreme National Authority of Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege adjacent to the border fence with Israel in eastern Gaza Strip cities.

Hundreds, including children and women, approached the border fence with Israel in front of each encampment and gathered tens of meters away from the main border fence. Further, setting fire to tires and throwing stones, incendiary balloons and Molotov cocktails were almost absent.

The demonstrators gathered in areas open to the Israeli snipers stationed on the top of the sand berms and military watchtowers and inside and behind the military jeeps.

Despite the prevailing calmness, the Israeli forces fired live and rubber bullets in addition to hundreds of teargas canisters, particularly in eastern Jabalia, Gaza and al-Bureij refugee camp.

The Israeli shooting, which continued at around 17:00, resulted in the injury of 120 Palestinian civilians, including 20 child, 2 women, 1 journalist and 2 paramedics. In addition, hundreds suffered tear gas inhalation and seizures due to tear gas canisters that were fired by the Israeli forces from the military jeeps and riffles in the eastern Gaza Strip.

The following table shows the number of civilian victims due to the Israeli forces’ suppression of the Great March of Return since its beginning on 30 March:

PCHR emphasizes that continuously targeting civilians, who exercise their right to peaceful assembly or while carrying out their humanitarian duty, is a serious violation of the rules of international law, international humanitarian law, the ICC Rome Statute and Fourth Geneva Convention.

Thus, PCHR calls upon the ICC Prosecutor to open an official investigation in these crimes and to prosecute and hold accountable all those applying or involved in issuing orders within the Israeli Forces at the security and political echelons.

PCHR hereby condemns the excessive use of force and commission of crimes by the Israeli forces despite the prevailed calmness, believing it is as a result of Israel’s enjoying impunity thanks to the U.S. and so encouraging the Israeli forces to commit further crimes upon an official decision by the highest military and political echelons.

PCHR also reiterates its call upon the High Contracting Parties to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfill their obligations under Article 1; i.e., to respect and ensure respect for the Convention in all circumstances and their obligations under Article 146 to prosecute persons alleged to commit grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

PCHR calls upon Switzerland, in its capacity as the Depository State for the Convention, to demand the High Contracting Parties to convene a meeting and ensure Israel’s respect for this Convention, noting that these grave breaches constitute war crimes under Article 147 of the same Convention and Protocol (I) Additional to the Geneva Conventions regarding the guarantee of Palestinian civilians’ right to protection in the occupied territories.
