Picture
On the 70th Great March of Return, 66 Palestinian civilians were injured due to the Israeli military’s continued use of excessive force against peaceful protests along the Gaza Strip’s eastern border.

At least 20 children, 3 women and a volunteer paramedic were among those injured this Friday, 16 August 2019. Twenty-nine civilians were shot with live bullets; 2 of them were deemed in a critical medical condition.

It should be noted there were no protests last Friday in observance of the Muslim holiday “Eid al-Adha”. Today’s protest, which lasted from 16:00 to 19:00, was titled “Palestinian Youth’s Friday” and involved activities such as speeches by political leaders and theatrical performances. Dozens of civilians protested at varied distances from the border fence across the Gaza Strip and threw stones at Israeli force who used excessive force against them.

To this date, PCHR documented 208 killings by Israel since the outbreak of the protests on 30 March 2018, including 44 children, 2 women, 9 persons with disabilities, 4 paramedics, and 2 journalists. Additionally, 13,463 were wounded, including 2,797 children, 415 women, 222 paramedics and 210 journalists, noting that many had sustained multiple wounds on multiple occasions.

Among those wounded, PCHR documented cases where 196 persons have become with disabilities, including 28 children and 5 women: 149 amputees; 21 paralyzed, 26 blind or deaf and 9 sexually disabled.

The following is a summary of today’s incidents along the Gaza Strip border:

Among those wounded, 15 were shot with live bullets and shrapnel, 5 with rubber bullets and 4 were directly hit with tear gas canisters, noting that they were present 100-250 meters away from the border fence.

Gaza City: Protests set off Malakah area, east of al-Zaytoun neighborhood in eastern Gaza City. Speeches, theatrical performances and other segments were performed at the protest central encampment. Dozens of protestors approached the fence at a 100 meters distance and threw stones with slingshots at Israeli soldiers, who responded with live ammunition and tear gas canisters.  As a result, 6 protestors, including a child and a woman, were wounded: 5 were shot with rubber bullets and one was directly hit with a tear gas canister.

Central Gaza Strip: at approximately 15:30, hundreds of civilians, including women, children and families, took part in the eastern Bureij refugee camp protests; hundreds, including women and children, gathered adjacent to the border fence at a range varying between 3 – 300 meters while tens approached the fence at a range varying between 2 – 70 meters. Some protestors attempted to throw stones at Israeli soldiers with slingshots.

The Israeli soldiers, reinforced with 9 military SUVs, responded with live and rubber bullets in addition to teargas canisters at the protesters, wounding 10 civilians, including a child. Among those injured, 5 were shot with live bullets and shrapnel, 4 with rubber bullets and one was directly hit with teargas canisters. ‘Arabi Maher ‘Abed al-Hameed Abu Hasnah (29) sustained serious wounds after being shot with a live bullet in his testicles.

Picture
The Israeli occupation naval forces on Friday morning opened fire at Palestinian fishermen off the coast of the Gaza Strip.

Local sources said that Israeli gunboats heavily opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of the northern Gaza Strip area forcing them to head back to shore.

No injuries were reported in the attack, they added.

The Israeli navy on a daily basis detains and shoots at unarmed Palestinian fishermen in Gaza although they sail within the fishing zone permitted by Israel.

Israeli minister threatens to kill Hamas leaders in Gaza
Picture
The Israeli occupation on Tuesday threatened to assassinate Hamas leaders during any future military aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Israel held Hamas responsible for the "recent attacks" carried out "armed Palestinians" on the border between the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories.

Israel's Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz in press statements said, "We are working constantly to reduce the threat of Hamas, such as by destroying their tunnels. We currently respond to every security incident, but there is the possibility that we could begin a campaign there."

Kats talked about the latest infiltration attempts into the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories from the Gaza Strip which led to the killing of five Palestinians and said, "We will not tolerate this."

He added that the moment Israel decides a new military campaign against the Gaza Strip there will be no immunity for Hamas leaders.

Member of Hamas's political bureau Salah al-Bardawil said that his movement is not afraid of Israeli threats to assassinate Hamas figures and launch a new military assault on the Gaza Strip.

Al-Bardawil said that these threats, which are part of internal election campaigns, are not the first of their kind.

"Every party want to show the public that they are the strongest through racist statements against the Palestinian people and their resistance. That's all they have for the elections," he added.

He continued, "Who wants to fight for the future of Palestine is fully aware that the price will  be very high, and we are ready to pay all the prices for our rights."

The Hamas official said that Israel is not ready for a new war, but warned that Israel now bets on the increasing normalization between Israel and some Arab countries hoping that it would isolate the Palestinians in the region and push them to surrender, which "will not happen" as al-Bardawil said.

Two drones cross Israeli border, return to Gaza
Picture
The Israeli occupation army on Tuesday claimed that two drones or small unmanned aircraft crossed the border in the south of the Gaza Strip.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth website, Israeli forces observed the drones crossing the border for a short while and then returning to Gaza.

Meanwhile, other Hebrew websites said that Palestinian young men hurled stones at Israeli soldiers behind the security fence in northern Gaza and fled the area.

Last July, the Israeli army shot down a drone overflying the Israeli side of the border, claiming that it came from Gaza.

Similar incident happened last January, when Hebrew newspapers reported that unknown drones, which breached Israel’s airspace, were believed to have managed to photograph important sites belonging to the air forces and fly back to their station.

IOF kidnaps Palestinian, opens fire at others on Gaza border
Picture
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Monday evening kidnaped a Palestinian young man and opened fire at others in different border areas of the Gaza Strip.

According to Hebrew websites, Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian after he allegedly infiltrated the security fence in southern Gaza and took him in for interrogation, adding that he was not carrying any weapon.

The IOF also opened fire at a group of Palestinian young men as they were trying to infiltrate into the Israeli side of the border in the east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

Meanwhile, the IOF also opened fire at an observation post in the east of Deir al-Balah, with no reported casualties.

Gaza: Young man killed by Israeli gunfire northeast of Gaza
Picture

A Palestinian young man was shot dead on Sunday morning, the first day of Eid al-Adha, as he was allegedly trying to approach the Israeli border fence in the northeast of Gaza.

The Israeli occupation army claimed that a military force neutralized a Palestinian after he opened fire as he was walking towards the security fence in the east of Beit Hanoun, north of Gaza.

The army also said that its tanks bombed border posts belonging to Hamas in the area.

Eyewitnesses told a reporter for the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that the Israeli army launched artillery attacks on several observation posts belonging to the Palestinian resistance in the east of Beit Hanoun, amid intensive gunfire in the area.

Lone Palestinian Killed at Gaza Border by Israeli Forces on Sunday

On Sunday morning, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian identified as Marwan Nassar, 26, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers near the border between Gaza and Israel.

Nassar was not associated with any Palestinian resistance groups, but the Israeli paper Ha’aretz has reported that relatives of Nassar told them that he was a part of the armed wing of Hamas.

The relatives also told the Israeli paper that he was not acting as a representative of Hamas when approaching the border on Sunday, but was acting independently.

Hamas did not take responsibility for the incident.

According to Ha’aretz, the unnamed relative of Nassar told them that he had participated in the weekly protests at the Gaza border, and had been going through a rough period with his family when he decided to carry out an attack against the Israeli military.

No soldiers were reported injured in what Israeli sources claim was an attack against a military border post.

It came one day after four Palestinians were killed on the eastern border of Gaza in what Israeli forces claim was a coordinated attack against the Israeli military.

A week before that, a Palestinian man managed to infiltrate the border and injure three Israeli soldiers before he was killed.

The Gaza Strip is one of the most crowded places on earth, and the 2 million Palestinians living in the Strip are imprisoned on all sides by the Israeli and Egyptian militaries.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) at dawn Saturday killed four Palestinian citizens in the east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, where they also carried out a limited incursion and bombed observation posts belonging to the Palestinian resistance.

According to the Hebrew media, the Israeli army killed four Palestinians in a border area to the east of central Gaza during a security incident.

A reporter for the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) said that military vehicles and one bulldozer infiltrated into the east of Deir al-Balah, adding that bodies of at least two Palestinians were seen in the area.

The events started at about three o’clock in the morning when gunshots were heard  in the area of the border fence in the east of Deir al-Balah before the IOF launched aerial attacks on two observation posts.

In this regard, Hebrew websites claimed that two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at Israeli forces before they were killed, while local sources said that the IOF used excessive armed force against citizens during their attempt to infiltrate the border area.

Israeli artillery bombs two locations at Gaza border

Israeli artillery bombed two locations at the border of the Gaza Strip, east of Deir el-Balah town in the center of the enclave, amid unconfirmed reports of a number of Palestinian casualties in the area bombed.

Israeli military claimed that they had targeted four Palestinians who approached the border fence east of Deir el-Balah, but their fate was mysterious until the moment.

Medical sources at Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah told WAFA that they had been unable to move to the targeted area to check whether there were any casualties, since the area was too close to the Gaza-Israel security barrier.

Israeli forces routinely open gunfire at Palestinians whenever they attempt to reach the unilaterally imposed security zone along Gaza border.
