Israeli navy Friday morning attacked a fisherman offshore Gaza city, according to WAFA correspondent.
He said that Israeli naval boats opened gunfire towards a fishing boat sailing within three nautical miles offshore al-Waha area, northwest of Gaza city, injuring the fisherman.
The casualty was rushed to al-Shifaa Hospital for treatment, where medics described his injury as moderate.
Fourteen years following the Israeli “disengagement” from Gaza, Israel has not actually disengaged from Gaza; it still maintains control of its land borders, access to the sea and airspace.
Two million Palestinians live the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a punishing and crippling Israeli blockade for 12 years and repeated onslaughts that have heavily damaged much of the enclave’s infrastructure.
Gaza’s 2-million population remains under “remote control” occupation and a strict siege, which has destroyed the local economy, strangled Palestinian livelihoods, plunged them into unprecedented rates of unemployment and poverty, and cut off from the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories and the wider world.
Gaza remains occupied territory, having no control over its borders, territorial waters or airspace. Meanwhile, Israel upholds very few of its responsibilities as the occupying power, failing to provide for the basic needs of Palestinian civilians living in the territory.
Every two in three Palestinians in Gaza is a refugee from lands inside what is now Israel. That government forbids them from exercising their right to return as enshrined in international law because they are not Jews.

Israeli soldiers and navy ships attacked, on Thursday morning, Palestinian farmers and fishermen with live fire and shells, in the southern and northern parts of the besieged and impoverished Gaza Strip.
Media sources said the soldiers, stationed in military towers across the perimeter fence, fired many live rounds at Palestinian farmers on their own lands near the perimeter fence, east of Khuza’a town, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the coastal region.
The farmers had to flee their lands and seek shelter away from the area to avoid further Israeli violations.
A similar attack targeted farmers on their lands, east of Shouka town, near Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, and in Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza Strip, forcing the farmers out of their lands.
In related news, Israeli navy ships attacked Palestinian fishing boats with sporadic rounds of live fire, and a few shells, while in Gaza territorial waters, in the northern part of the coastal region.
The attacks did not lead to casualties but forced the fishermen back to the shore without being able to fish to provide for their families.

The Israeli occupation navy on Wednesday morning launched a renewed shooting attack on Palestinian fishermen and their boats off the northern coast of Gaza.
Local sources said that Israeli gunboats opened machinegun fire several fishing boats during their presence within five nautical miles off the northern shore of Gaza City.
Luckily, no one was injured in the shooting attack.
Recently, the Israeli navy intensified its attacks on Gazan fishermen and their boats.
Israeli naval forces and their gunboats are around Gaza fishermen almost every day, harassing them, shooting at them, damaging their boats, and making arrests. Sometimes fishermen are injured or killed during gunfire attacks.
Under the 1993 Oslo accords, Palestinian fishermen are permitted to fish up to 20 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza, but since then Israel has kept reducing the fishing area gradually to a limit between six to three nautical miles as part of its blockade on Gaza.
Fishermen and human rights groups also say that since the 2008-09 war in Gaza, the Israeli army has been regularly enforcing a limit even closer to the shore.
