Remah Fayez Al-Husseni, 28
A member of Islamic Jihad's military wing was killed late Wednesday in an explosion west of Deir Al-Balah, medics said, in what militants described as an airstrike but Israel's army denied.
Al-Quds Brigades spokesman Abu Ahmad said an airstrike on a car west of Deir Al-Balah killed Remah Fayez Al-Husseni, 28, a member of the group from Shati refugee camp.
Abu Ahmad, the Al-Quds spokesman, said Israel was trying to "incite the resistance" to respond.
But Israeli military officials denied any involvement in the militant's death.
"We had no operations in the Gaza Strip tonight," said Lt.-Col. Avital Leibovich, an army spokeswoman. "This is not the first time we have seen an internal 'work incident' there," she added.
An airstrike is "not the kind of thing you can hide," Leibovich said.
Medics said Al-Husseni's body arrived at Al-Aqsa martyrs hospital after the blast.
Earlier, the military said a rocket exploded in an open area near a kibbutz in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council in the western Negev. There were no reports of injury or damage.
On Tuesday, a member of the armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees died and three others were injured in an Israeli airstrike near Khan Younis, medics said.
The An-Nasser Salah Ad-Din Brigades said in a statement that Khaled Samhud, 23, the leader of the artillery unit in the brigades, died after an attack targeting members of the group.

Israeli jets kill one, injure 3 in Gaza
Israeli warplanes have attacked a civilian locality of Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, killing one person and injuring three members of a family.
Israel launched the airstrike on the impoverished coastal enclave on Tuesday evening despite a ceasefire in place between Hamas and Israel, AFP reported.
The airstrike, in the eastern part of Khan Younis, killed a Palestinian young man.
Gaza emergency services spokesman Adham Abu Selmiya said three civilians, a father and his two sons, were also wounded in the attack.
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli troops on Tuesday afternoon trespassed 100 to 200 meters into the east of Khan Younis, located in southern Gaza.
Palestinians say that the Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis indicates Tel Aviv's evasion of the ceasefire agreement, which Hamas and Israel restored on August 22 after a spate of violence.
Hamas has often criticized Tel Aviv for violating the January 2009 ceasefire agreement, which ended the 22-day Israeli war on the people of Gaza.
Since the end of the war in 2009, a large number of Palestinians have been killed and injured because of numerous Israeli air attacks on the Gaza Strip. The airstrikes have also destroyed many schools, hospitals, mosques, and the infrastructure of Gaza.

30 Palestinians killed, some 400 arrested in Israeli operations in August
The International Solidarity Foundation for Human Rights has released a report documenting that 30 Palestinians died and almost 400 were arrested last month in Israeli occupation operations in the occupied Palestinian territories.
“Hardly a day goes by without observing killing and arrest operations on dozens of Palestinians, let alone the attacks by the [occupation state], its soldiers and its settlers against the Palestinians...,” the report says.
While only three of those killed were from the West Bank, two of them in their early twenties, a total of 27 Palestinians were killed in mortar attacks and air strikes targeting the Gaza Strip that month. Five of them were under 18 years of age.
During August, Israeli forces arrested more than 380 Palestinians, including 44 minors, in addition to dozens of Palestinian workers arrested beyond the green line.
What made that month exceptional was that Israel launched one of the widest ranging arrest campaigns in the West Bank city of Al-Khalil in years, and it also carried out sweeps in Bethlehem, Jerusalem’s Silwan district, Tulkarem, Salfit, Ramallah, and Al-Beira.
Among those arrested in August were Palestinian MPs Mustafa Mutlaq Abu Juheisha (Al-Khalil), Anwar al-Zabboun (Bethlehem), and Hassan Yousef - just one months after his release after six year stretch in detention. All of those MPs represent the Hamas party on the Palestinian Legislative Council.
Another primary target were Palestinian news reporters. According to the ISFHR report, three journalists were arrested that month, including head of Al-Jazeera’s Afghanistan bureau Samer Allawi. He was arrested while departing to Jordan on Allenby Bridge after spending vacation with family members in the West Bank village of Sebastea.

Name: Haitham Ma'rouf
Date of Incident: 21 August 2011
Date of Death: 29 August 2011
Age: 13
Location: Beit Lahiya, the Gaza Strip
Nature of Incident: Killed in an Israeli air strike
On 21 August 2011, 13-year-old Haitham was injured in an Israeli air strike as he worked on his family’s allotment with his mother. Haitham died from his injuries on 29 August.
Haitham lived in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, with his parents and seven siblings. The family rents an allotment where they grow vegetables to sell in the market. Haitham’s father has been unemployed since the beginning of the Israeli blockade of Gaza in 2007, and this is their only source of income.
At around 11:15 am on Sunday, 21 August 2011, Haitham and his mother were watering vegetables in the allotment. Suddenly, his mother noticed two young men, about 50 metres away. ‘Just then,’ she recalls, ‘two home-made rockets were fired from where they were standing [...] It was a loud and terrifying noise so Haitham and I ran to our neighbour’s land. In the meantime, I heard a drone plane circling overhead; it was very loud. We stayed on the neighbour’s land for about five to seven minutes but nothing happened, so we went back to our land.’ Mother and son continued working until ‘around 11:30 am,’ Haitham’s mother remembers, ‘I suddenly felt something flying over my head very fast and then there was an explosion behind me. I was so terrified and confused I couldn’t do anything except turn around to see where the explosion had been. It was very close. I saw black and white smoke rising from where Haitham had been working.’ As the smoke cleared, she saw Haitham lying on the ground. ‘“Haitham, Haitham,” I shouted, running towards him. He was moaning in a weak voice. His left leg was twisted strangely. His right leg was twisted as well, but not as much as the left one. A large part of the flesh of his left thigh was hanging off.” Haitham’s mother shouted for help and a neighbour came and drove Haitham to the hospital. ‘I was absolutely terrified and confused at the time,’ Haitham’s mother remembers.
Haitham was admitted to the intensive care unit of Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. As his injuries were so serious, he was transferred to an Israeli hospital four days later. His father went with him. On 29 August 2011, the last day of Ramadan, Haitham’s father called to say that Haitham had died due to blood poisoning from his injuries. His mother was grief stricken: ‘I couldn’t believe it. I loved Haitham very much.’ Haitham was brought home to be buried later that day. ‘The following morning was the first day of Eid al Fitr,’ his mother recalls, ‘I woke up but I didn’t see Haitham. He didn’t say “Many happy returns of the day, mother.” He didn’t ask for money. It was very painful for me and his siblings. They can’t stop crying.’
DCI-Palestine has documented the death of three children as a result of the August air strikes in Gaza, two of whom, Islam and Malek, were under two years old.
