Operation Defencive shield
At approximately 02:30 on Sunday, 25 Israeli tanks and armored personnel carriers, supported by a helicopter, invaded Beit Rima village, northwest of Ramallah. When they seized complete control over the village, they raided houses and arrested 23 Palestinians.
On the same day, Israeli occupation forces also invaded the villages of Deir al-Sudan and ‘Aarura, northwest of Ramallah. They imposed a curfew on the two villages. They raided houses and arrested a number of Palestinian civilians.
On Sunday, the body of a member of the Palestinian National Security Force was discovered. He was hit by several live bullets and is still unidentified.
At approximately 15:00 on Sunday, 7 April, an Israeli combat helicopter shelled a bakery in al-Yassamina quarter in the old city of Nablus. Six Palestinians, still unidentified, were killed.
According to Dr. Saber Rajab of the Palestinian Union of Medical Relief Committees, the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli occupation forces in Nablus and its refugee camps until noon on Sunday, 7 April was over 30.
He asserted that Israeli forces threatened medical personnel, fired at them and prohibited their movement. Some medical personnel were detained for several hours and were checked and humiliated by Israeli forces, which also checked the wounded; consequently some of the wounded died. At approximately 17:00, Israeli occupation forces in the vicinity of “Dogit” settlement, north of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip, opened fire at Palestinian houses and farms in al-Sayafa area, which has been under a strict siege for several months.
Several hours later, Israeli forces called through loudspeakers on the 69 residents of the area to gather in a yard near the entrance of the area, and detained them in cold weather until 09:00 on the following day. PCHR’s field worker in the northern Gaza Strip reported that Israeli forces searched and damaged houses. They also razed around 70 donums of Palestinian agricultural land.

At approximately 18:00 on Saturday, Israeli occupation forces willfully killed six Palestinians seeking shelter in a house during the Israeli offensive on the town. According to LAW’s field worker, the six victims sought refuge in a house in al-Sawafta neighborhood, in the northwest of Tubas.
A special unit of Israeli forces, reinforced with 14 tanks and four combat helicopters, shelled the house. At approximately 18:00, Israeli forces moved into the house and killed all those who were inside from a very close distance. The six victims were shot in their heads. They are:
1. Qais ‘Edwan Abu Jaber, 27, from Siris village, former chairman of the student union of al-Najah National University;
2. Ashraf Hamza Dharaghma, 29, from Tubas;
3. Munqeth Mohammed Sa’id Sawafta, 25, form Tubas;
4. Majdi Mohammed Salim, 28, from Balata refugee camp;
5. Sa’ed Hussein Ahmed ‘Awad, 31, from Rafah; and
6. Mohammed Ahmed Tawfiq Kumail, 28, from Qabatya village.
Israeli Offensive on Hebron At approximately 01:00 on Saturday, 6 April, Israeli occupation forces invaded Yatta village, south of Hebron, under the cover of intense shelling that targeted houses of the village. Two Palestinian civilians,
Nader Jamil al-Haddar, 29, and
Jamal Hamada Qara’in, 20, were killed.
At approximately 14:30 on the same day, Israeli occupation forces moved into al-Fawar refugee camp in Hebron. They opened fire at Palestinians houses.
A Palestinian child, Rubin Jamil al-Khadur, 14, was killed by a live bullet in the heart, and eight other civilians were wounded, including one who was in critical condition.
At approximately 06:00, three Israeli heavy military vehicles moved approximately 150m into al-Ja’farawi area, east of Deir al-Balah. They razed a tract of agricultural land and demolished two houses:
1. They razed a five-donum area of agricultural land planted with palms, olives and guavas, and destroyed a greenhouse planted with vegetables, an agricultural pool, a well, two stores and a water motor, owned by Salama Nasrallah Abu ‘Amra.
2. They demolished a 130-square-meter, asbestos-roofed house, in which three families comprised of 15 persons used to live, owned by Fathi Salama Abu ‘Amra.
3. They demolished a 130-square-meter, asbestos-roofed house, in which three families comprised of 13 persons used to live, owned by Salama Nasrallah Abu ‘Amra.
Residents of the two houses were not able to evacuate their property as Israeli forces threatened to fire at them.
Israeli occupation forces subjected a Palestinian refugee camp in the southern Gaza strip to indiscriminate heavy machine gun fire. Three Palestinian civilians, including two children, were killed and a number of civilians were wounded in the attack, which occurred for no apparent reason.
At approximately 16:00, Israeli occupation forces began firing on Tel al-Sultan neighborhood in the west of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip without any clashes or violence reported in the area at the time. The shooting lasting until 18:30. PCHR's field worker in Rafah reported that the Israeli fire came from three directions: from three Israeli heavy military vehicles positioned at the border with Egypt; from the al-Mawasi roadblock, west of Tal al-Sultan neighborhood; and from a military location in Tel Zo'rob area at the Egyptian border.
Three Palestinian civilians, including two children, were killed:
1. Sumaiah Najeh 'Abdulhadi Hassan, 6, was killed by a live bullet in the head while she was traveling in a civilian car with her pregnant mother, Manar Samih Rashid al-Qiq, 26, who was wounded by shrapnel in the nose, and her grandfather, Samih Rashid al-Qiq, 51, who was also wounded by a live bullet in the right shoulder, on their way from the centre of Rafah to Tel al-Sultan neighborhood.
2. Salwa Khaled Dahliz, 10, was killed by a heavy caliber bullet in the head while she was near her family's house, opposite to the Israeli military location in Tal Zo'rob area.
3. Shadi Fawzi Abu Ghali, 20, was killed by a live bullet in the head while he was in the street. A number of houses in the neighborhood were severely damaged.
In addition, 7 other Palestinian civilians were wounded:
1. Kifah Fu’ad al-Qadhi, 9, wounded by shrapnel in the abdomen;
2. Mohammed Ahmed Shahin, 4, wounded by shrapnel in the left thigh;
3. Tahrir ‘Omar Fuju, 12, wounded by a live bullet in the left thigh;
4. Ahmed ‘Abdelhamid Fuju, 14, wounded by a live bullet in the left arm;
5. Bilal Ramadan al-Hamaida, 17, wounded by a live bullet in the left arm;
6. Ziad Yousef abu ‘Elwan, 19, wounded by shrapnel in the head; and
7. Leila ‘Essam Abu Sulaima, 22, wounded by shrapnel in the left arm.
At approximately 20:15, Israeli occupation forces in a military location in Tal Zo’rob area at the Egyptian border, south of Rafah, opened fire at Block J in Rafah refugee camp, approximately 1500m away.
A Palestinian civilian, Sami Suleiman Sha’at, 42, was wounded by shrapnel in the right thigh, and a number of houses were damaged.
In the evening of the same day, Israeli occupation forces opened fire at houses in Yatta village. Eleven Palestinian civilians were wounded, including two who were in serious condition.
On Friday and Saturday, 5 and 6 April, Israeli occupation forces intensely shelled Balata and ‘Askar refugee camps and the old city of Nablus, using tanks and helicopter gunships. A number of Palestinians were killed, five of whom were identified as:
1. Mohammed Ghandur, 26, from ‘Askar refugee camp;
2. Ahmed Quza’, 24, from Balata refugee camp;
3. Yasser al-Kouni, from Nablus;
4. Jihad Tayem, from Balata refugee camp;
5. Suleiman Tashtush, from Nablus.
Israeli occupation forces have prevented journalists from covering human rights violations perpetrated against Palestinians. They detained several Reuters reporters in a flat in a commercial building in the centre of Nablus.
Israeli forces also stormed the campus of al-Najah National University and transformed it into a military position.
Israeli occupation forces intensely shelled Nablus and its four refugee camps, using tanks and helicopter gunships. LAW reported that Israeli forces warned people through loudspeakers to evacuate their houses before destroying them.
Israeli occupation forces have also denied access of ambulances to the wounded.
At approximately 11:00 on Saturday, Israeli occupation forces positioned on roofs of some houses in Um al-Sharayet neighborhood opened fire at houses. A Palestinian civilian, Sharif Khaled al-‘Umari, 55, was killed by a live bullet in the head while on the balcony of his house.
At approximately 17:00 on the same day, Israeli occupation forces positioned in the vicinity of the compound of the Palestinian presidency shelled the office of President Yasser Arafat. Four guards were wounded, one of whom was in serious condition. According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, an ambulance of the society moved towards the compound at approximately 19:00, upon coordination between the ICRC and Israeli occupation forces to evacuate the guard, who was seriously wounded.
During the evacuation, Israeli forces brought an Israeli television crew to photograph the evacuation in an attempt to mislead international public opinion and distract attention from the hundreds of attacks on medical personnel and establishments and dozens of cases in which wounded Palestinians were left to bleed to death.
After the drove the television crew departed, Israeli forces arrested the wounded guard and took him while still bleeding to Beit El detention camp.
In the evening of the same day, 10-year-old ‘Esara’ Ghaleb ‘Othman, was evacuated to hospital in serious condition. According to investigation carried out by LAW, the child was wounded by a live bullet in the abdomen at 15:00 on the previous day, when Israeli occupation forces fired at Palestinian civilians who went shopping after the curfew was lifted for few hours.
Neither her family nor medical personnel were able to evacuate her to hospital until Saturday evening due to Israeli restrictions on the movement of ambulances.
Israeli occupation forces have maintained the siege on the Church of Nativity, three other churches, and a dormitory of priests and nuns of the Orthodox Church. On Friday, 5 April, Israeli forces sporadically shelled the Church of Nativity to force 250 Palestinians seeking refuge inside to surrender.
The bell ringer of the Church, Samir Ibrahim Salman, 42, was killed by Israeli fire. Israeli forces also destroyed the southern gate of the Church and a number of Israeli soldiers moved into its southern yard.

Israeli occupation forces repeatedly attempted to break into Jenin refugee camp. They resorted to tanks, helicopter gunships, and heavy machine guns to shell the refugee camp. Palestinian resistance fighters confronted the invading Israeli forces. Four Palestinians were killed:
1. Rabi’ Ahmed Jalamna, 22;
2. Ahmed Hussein Abu al-Haija, 24;
3. Nidhal Husni Abu al-Haija, 22; and
4. Walid Ibrahim Sa’id, 22.

On Tuesday morning, Israeli occupation forces started shelling the headquarters of the Palestinian Preventive Security in Bitounia in the west of Ramallah, using helicopter gunships, tanks, and heavy machine guns.
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli occupation forces used approximately 60 Palestinian civilians, who were detained in an adjacent building, as physical shields in their attempts to break into the headquarters, where 300-400 Palestinians – including members of security services, administrative employees and their families, and prisoners – were inside.
Israeli occupation forces denied the access of Palestinian ambulances to the headquarters to evacuate the wounded. The Israeli daily Yediot Aharanot on its Arabic web page quoted an Israeli military spokesman as saying that his forces would allow the access of ambulances to the headquarters only when wanted Palestinians allegedly were inside the headquarters, are handed over.
At approximately 12:40, an Israeli sniper positioned atop of al-Ramouni building, shot dead 45-year-old Widad Hamed Nemer Safwan, from Qaddura refugee camp, with a live bullet that entered the left shoulder and settled in the heart.
Safwan was on her way to hospital for emergency medical treatment.
At approximately 02:00 on Tuesday, Israeli occupation forces invaded Bethlehem, Beit Jala, and Beit Sahour, using approximately 250 tanks and armored personnel carriers, F-16 fighter jets, and Apache gunships.

On Sunday morning, Israeli occupation forces invaded Qalqilya from three directions and seized full control over the city. They cut electricity and raided Palestinian houses searching for allegedly wanted Palestinians.
At approximately 21:00, Israeli occupation forces positioned at al-Matahen military checkpoint, north of al-Qarara village in Khan Yunis, shelled Palestinian houses and farms in the village.
Then, Israeli occupation soldiers, accompanied by dogs, three tanks and a bulldozer, moved approximately 300m into the village. They gathered residents of the area aged 15-50 in the yard of the village and interrogated them for two hours. They also thoroughly searched Palestinian houses, claiming that a Palestinian gunman fired at an Israeli military location.
Before their withdrawal, Israeli forces destroyed the lower floors of two apartment buildings of al-Farra Company. PCHR’s field worker in Khan Yunis reported that the upper floors of the building were also severely damaged.
Attacks on Journalists and Media Institutions
At noon, Anthony Shadid, correspondent of the US Boston Globe, was wounded by a live bullet in the shoulder. The Israeli Governmental Press Bureau stated Shadid was wounded by Israeli forces.
In the evening, Israeli occupation forces declared Ramallah a closed military area, preventing the access of journalists to the city. They also ordered journalists in the city to leave.
At approximately 19:30, Israeli occupation forces raided Suleiman Rabah commercial building near Ramallah Park. They raided offices of the Egyptian Middle East News Agency and detained the Egyptian journalist Ibrahim Jalal with other residents of the building. When they identified his nationality, they released him. They also checked the offices.
Journalists were not immune to attacks by Israeli occupation forces. On Sunday afternoon, Eyad Hamad, a cameraman, was wounded in the head by Israeli forces.
Attacks on Medical Personnel
In the morning, three Israeli forces besieged Ramallah and Arab Care hospitals and thoroughly searched them.
According to sources of the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Ramallah, Israeli occupation forces arrested five of the hospital staff while on their way to evacuate the wounded:
1. Arkan Jihad Khader, from Bethlehem;
2. Khaled Abu Ghoush, from Ramallah;
3. Zuhdi Mustafa ‘Abdulhafezh, from al-Zawia village in Nablus;
4. Firas ‘Abdullatif Samara, from Ramallah; and
5. Lu’ai Jawdat Rawad, from Ramallah.
At approximately 17:00, approximately 30 Israeli soldiers moved into Arab Care Hospital at the centre of Ramallah. They detained the medical staff and patients.
According to Dr. Edwan Barghouthi, Israeli occupation forces detained approximately 55 Palestinians, including 9 of the wounded, inside the hospital and handcuffed them. They forced them to lie on the ground and humiliated them. They prevented any contact between the hospital and the outside. At approximately 22:00, they left the hospital.
At approximately 21:00, Israeli occupation forces besieged al-Nazher Midwifery Hospital. They detained 11 medical personnel and fired in the vicinity of the hospital, creating an atmosphere of terror.
According to Dr. Wa’el Qe’dan of the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Ramallah, four ambulances moved towards the hospital. When they arrived there, they were stopped by Israeli forces, who forced medical personnel to get out of the ambulances and checked them.
Approximately 15 minutes later, Israeli forces ordered the ambulances to leave the area. According to medical personnel, they heard sounds of intense shooting at the nearby Dharaghma building without being allowed by Israeli forces to go there to evacuate any probable wounded.
Dr. Qe’dan added that an ambulance of the Palestinian Union of Medical Relief Committees was present in the area at the same time. The driver remained in the area and attempted to reach the area again.
At approximately 22:00, he was detained by Israeli forces. At approximately 01:30 on the following day, Israeli forces allowed his access to Dharaghma building to evacuate bodies of two Palestinians whom they shot dead.
The victims are still unidentified. According to the ambulance driver, Israeli ambulances arrived at the area and evacuated 15-20 members of the Palestinian National Security Force who were inside the building.
On Sunday morning, Israeli occupation forces invaded Qalqilya from three directions and seized full control over the city. They cut electricity and raided Palestinian houses searching for allegedly wanted Palestinians.
At approximately 21:00, Israeli occupation forces positioned at al-Matahen military checkpoint, north of al-Qarara village in Khan Yunis, shelled Palestinian houses and farms in the village.
Then, Israeli occupation soldiers, accompanied by dogs, three tanks and a bulldozer, moved approximately 300m into the village. They gathered residents of the area aged 15-50 in the yard of the village and interrogated them for two hours. They also thoroughly searched Palestinian houses, claiming that a Palestinian gunman fired at an Israeli military location.
Before their withdrawal, Israeli forces destroyed the lower floors of two apartment buildings of al-Farra Company. PCHR’s field worker in Khan Yunis reported that the upper floors of the building were also severely damaged.
Attacks on Journalists and Media Institutions
At noon, Anthony Shadid, correspondent of the US Boston Globe, was wounded by a live bullet in the shoulder. The Israeli Governmental Press Bureau stated Shadid was wounded by Israeli forces.
In the evening, Israeli occupation forces declared Ramallah a closed military area, preventing the access of journalists to the city. They also ordered journalists in the city to leave.
At approximately 19:30, Israeli occupation forces raided Suleiman Rabah commercial building near Ramallah Park. They raided offices of the Egyptian Middle East News Agency and detained the Egyptian journalist Ibrahim Jalal with other residents of the building. When they identified his nationality, they released him. They also checked the offices.
Journalists were not immune to attacks by Israeli occupation forces. On Sunday afternoon, Eyad Hamad, a cameraman, was wounded in the head by Israeli forces.
Attacks on Medical Personnel
In the morning, three Israeli forces besieged Ramallah and Arab Care hospitals and thoroughly searched them.

At approximately 01:30 on Saturday, a number of Israeli tanks besieged al-Natsheh commercial compound, which includes offices of private, press and political institutions. They fired artillery shells and heavy medium caliber bullets at the compound.
Ten Palestinians were wounded and fire broke out in parts of the compound. Ambulances and fire engines were denied access to the compound. Israeli occupation forces gave all those who were inside the compound an ultimatum to surrender by 09:00. At 09:00, Israeli occupation forces broke into the compound under the cover of intense shooting and arrested 30 Palestinians, including Sakher Habash, Secretary General of Fatah Movement.
Israeli occupation forces directly targeted Palestinian ambulances, obstructing their movement and access to the wounded. They fired at ambulances. A number of the wounded bled to death.
At approximately 15:30, Israeli occupation forces moved into some areas in the north of Beit Lahia apparently to terrify Palestinian civilians. They moved towards the main road opposite to the American School, approximately 800m south of “Dogit” settlement. They opened fire at a roadblock at the Palestinian Marine Police, but no casualties were reported.
They closed the main road and intensely fired at the area. At the same time, Israeli heavy military vehicles moved approximately 700m into the area southeast of “Dogit” settlement. They took position on a nearby hill until the following morning. In the meanwhile, a number of Israeli tanks moved towards the Bedouin Village and took position in the area for some hours.
At approximately 16:00, Israeli occupation forces, accompanied by a bulldozer, moved approximately 100m into Wadi al-Salqa village, east of Deir al-Balah. They demolished a 100-square-meter house owned by Riad al-Agha, who used it as a summer cottage.
At the same time, Israeli occupation forces, accompanied by a bulldozer, moved approximately 100m into al-Qarara village, north of Khan Yunis. They demolished a 200-square-meter, asbestos-roofed house, owned by Nassim Salman al-Masri.
At approximately 19:00, Israeli heavy military vehicles moved approximately 1km into the Palestinian National Authority controlled al-Qarara village, north of Khan Yunis. They fired three flechette shells at three Palestinian houses, causing severe damage.
PCHR’s field worker in Khan Yunis reported that Israeli forces searched the area using dogs, and that the area did not witness any incidents when the incursion took place.
A New Assassination
In a continuation of the policy of assassination formally adopted by the Israeli government, on Saturday night, Israeli occupation forces assassinated an activist of the Islamic Jihad and willfully killed his cousin in Tulkarm.
According to investigation carried out by LAW – the Palestinian Society for the Protection of Human Rights and the Environment, at approximately 22:00, an undercover unit of Israeli occupation forces in a civilian car moved into Saida village in Tulkarm.
They raided the house of Ahmed Fathi Mahmoud ‘Ajaj, 32. Israeli soldiers got out of the car and opened fire at the house. When ‘Ajaj attempted to escape, they wounded him with a live bullet in the foot. When he fell, Israeli soldiers shot him dead with several live bullets in the head, the chest and the abdomen from a very close distance.
As soon as he heard sounds of shooting at his cousin’s house, ‘Azmi ‘Aadel Mahmoud ‘Ajaj, 34, went out to check what happened to his cousin. Israeli soldiers arrested him and took him towards the body of his cousin. When he saw the body he shouted. Then, Israeli soldiers severely attacked him with sharp tools and shot him dead from point-blank range.
He was hit by a live bullet in the head and several live bullets in the abdomen. He was not an activist of any political party.

At approximately 11:00, Israeli occupation forces positioned near the Arab Bank stopped two ambulances of the Palestine Red Crescent Society and Ministry of Health. They forced medical personnel to get out of the ambulances. Then, they confiscated keys of the ambulances and released the medical personnel.
At approximately 11:25, Israeli occupation forces blocked an ambulance of Khaled Hospital in al-Ersal Street. According to a physician of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, Israeli occupation forces used ambulances in their raids on Palestinian houses.

Throughout the day, Israeli occupation forces raided offices of a number of local, Arab and international press and media institutions. On Friday and Saturday, Israeli occupation forces raided 15 of these offices, closing some of them:
