The Israeli authorities on Tuesday released the bodies of three Palestinians shot dead by Israeli forces after allegedly attacking Israelis.
Officials with the Palestinian Civil Affairs told Ma'an that the bodies of Eiad Idies from Hebron, Baseem Salah from Nablus, and Mazin Hasan Ureiba from al-Eizariya had been delivered to them.
Idies was shot dead near Hebron on Dec. 24 after he allegedly stabbed an Israeli soldier with a screwdriver, while Salah was killed Nov. 30 after an attack left an Israeli police officer wounded near Jerusalem's Old City.
Araiyba, meanwhile, was shot dead near Hizma on Dec. 3 after he allegedly opened fire on Israeli forces, injuring two of them.
Local authorities in Nablus later told Ma'an that the funeral of 38-year-old Salah would be delayed until Wednesday as his body remained frozen and could not be buried.
They added that the Israeli authorities were demanding they they bury him on Tuesday.
Since a wave of unrest swept the occupied Palestinian territory at the beginning of October, Israel has routinely held the bodies of Palestinians it says were attempting to attack Israelis.
Israel's Public Security Ministry said in mid-October that the bodies of alleged Palestinians attackers would no longer be returned to their families and would instead by buried in "secret."
A spokesperson for the ministry said at the time the decision was made in order to stem protests that frequently accompany the funerals of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces.
However, Israel's withholding of bodies has only further stoked tensions in the occupied Palestinian territory, and Israeli authorities have since returned many of them of them to their families, on what they refer to as a "case-by-case" basis.

Head of the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoner Affairs, Issa Qaraqe’, on Tuesday, said that Ma’moun Al-Khatib (16), from Al-Doha town in Bethlehem, whose body has been returned on Sunday after three weeks of detention, was beaten to death after being shot.
He said that there are marks of torture and savage beating on his body, which is the case of other countless Palestinian victims of the Israeli forces.
Speaking at the funeral of 16-year-old Ma’moun Al-Khatib, Qaraqe’ said that even the most fascist countries would not torture their victims even after killing them, torment their families and place restrictions on their burial or funerals, except for Israel.
He said, additionally, that the Israeli retention of Palestinians’ bodies after killing them was a shameful moral stigma that challenges all human and religious values.
“Israel has willfully killed civilians and still refuses to return their bodies to their families. The bodies of these victims are violated as worthless carcasses, and when returned, the killer places his own conditions in unprecedent insolence and a doubled crime.”
The shooting took place on December 1st, when Israeli forces claimed that the boy tried to stab a soldier on Etzion checkpoint. to the south of Bethlehem.
Israel has returned several bodies of slain Palestinians whom they willfully killed over the past few months, and still retains some 50 bodies, refusing to give them back.
The bodies are handed back to their families under strict conditions that include time, place, and number of people in the funeral.
This move is to prevent taking the victims to anatomy, according to the PNN, since Israel has been accused of harvesting organs and operating other violations on their dead bodies kept in refrigerators.

Israeli authorities on Sunday released the bodies of seven Palestinians who were killed by Israeli forces, some of them more than a month earlier, the Palestinian Authority of Civil Affairs told Ma'an.
Ministry officials said the bodies belonged to Muhammad Zahran from Kafr Addik village near Nablus, Mamoon al-Khatib from Bethlehem, Issam Thawabta from the town of Beit Fajjar south of Bethlehem, Samir al-Sarisi from Jenin, Muhammad al-Shubaki from Hebron, Issa al-Huroub from Hebron, and Shadi Matariyya from al-Bireh northwest of Ramallah.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Saturday came down heavily on a group of Palestinian activists who formed what they called “the longest human chain” around the Old City’s walls to push for the release of slain Palestinians’ bodies.
Hundreds of people participated in the protest despite the heavy presence of Israeli troops who fired sound bombs and tear gas canisters soon as the protesters gathered in the area.
The rally-goers demanded that the Israeli occupation authorities hand over bodies of those killed to their families so that they can bid them last farewell before their burial.
A PIC journalist said a number of protesters were injured and others were chased down and arrested by the occupation soldiers.
The demonstrators gathered near the Bab al-Sahira, raising photos of the slain Palestinians and lifting banners calling for releasing their bodies.
The protesters were attacked, as they advanced hand in hand, by the Israeli troops who violently disbanded the march using tear gas grenades and rubber bullets. Several activists were subjected to heavy beating in the assault.
Spokesperson for the families of slain Palestinians, Muhammad Alyan, said: “We formed the longest human chain to restore the bodies of our sons and daughters. The Israeli occupation does not have the right to withhold dead bodies. This is a policy of collective punishment and a poof of Israel’s inherently sadistic nature.”
Former Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, Hatem Abdul Kader, said Israel’s seizure of Palestinian bodies is a war crime against the victims and their families alike.
He vowed that Jerusalemites shall never remain mum over such crimes and will resort to all possible means to release the dead bodies.
According to the Red Crescent, at least 20 Palestinians were injured in the Israeli attack on the human chain.
The bodies of over 50 Palestinians killed by the occupation troops since early October have been withheld by the Israeli occupation, in a move dubbed by observers an attempt to snuff out the flames of anti-occupation activism among the Palestinians.

Palestinian activists and families of slain anti-occupation protesters slammed the Israeli occupation for executing their children and harvesting their organs after withholding their bodies for weeks.
A number of families refused to succumb to Israeli conditions to bury their slain sons and daughters without carrying out postmortem autopsy.
Other families succumbed to Israeli terms due to the pressure exerted by the occupation authorities and their eagerness to bury their children and bid them last farewell at the soonest time possible.
Head of the Quds Center for Legal Assistance in Nablus, Saher Sarsour, held the Israeli occupation accountable for stealing Palestinians’ organs.
“Israel has a long history of harvesting the organs of detained Palestinian cadavers. There should be a mechanism of some sort or a third party to carry out the autopsy and prove whether certain organs were stolen and whether people were cold-bloodedly killed from a zero distance,” Sarsur said.
The families of the killed Palestinians face tough conditions set by Israel in return for the bodies of their dead children, which some have accepted while others have rejected, while the international community remains silent regarding this inhumane Israeli practice.
One condition set by Israeli authorities is that families receive the bodies and bury them during the night, which prevents the family from conducting an independent autopsy to figure out the cause of death.
In many cases, Palestinian families are also forced to sign a number of documents written in the Hebrew language, which they do not understand.
Sarsur added that the Israeli occupation turned Palestinian cadavers into bargaining chips, ordering families to shell out fines amounting to $14,000 in the event they violated conditions of the delivery of the bodies.
At least 315 Palestinians have been withheld by the Israeli occupation authorities, 50 among whom detained since the outbreak of the Jerusalem Intifada in early October.

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) retracted its decision to release on Monday night the body of 72-year-old Tharwat Sha'rawi, a Palestinian woman from al-Khalil city who was killed early last month aboard her car by Israeli soldiers.
The Palestinian Authority liaison office told the family of Sha'rawi that the Israeli side decided to delay the delivery of her body until further notice.
In a related context, the families of al-Khalil martyrs voiced their refusal to bury their deceased relatives at nighttime as an Israeli condition for the handover of their bodies.
According to the family committee of al-Khalil martyrs, the families insist on burying their relatives during the daytime.

The occupation intelligence decided on Sunday night to release the detained Palestinian Martyrs’ bodies in the next few days.
Al-Dameer organization lawyer, Mohammad Mahmoud, explained that a meeting with held between him and the occupation intelligence on Sunday night in which he was informed about the decision of Israeli intelligence to release Palestinian Martyrs who passed away in the city of Jerusalem (holders of Israeli “blue” IDs as well as holders of Palestinian IDs).
The lawyer added that the intelligence intends to carry out a meeting in the next few days with him and the families of the Martyrs to discuss the releasing process.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud said the Israeli Intelligence service informed him about their intent to release the bodies of Jerusalemite Martyrs in the next few days.
Lawyer Mahmoud who is following up with the case of the Martyrs’ bodies explained that he met with the Israeli Intelligence at Al-Maskobyeh police center in West Jerusalem and they informed him that a decision is being prepared to release the bodies of Jerusalemite Martyrs to their families; it is possible that positive news will be coming in the next few days.
The lawyers’ staff consisting of Mohammad Mahmoud, Tarek Barghouth and Midhat Deebeh have submitted 80 letters in the past two months to the Minister of Internal Security, legal advisor of Israeli police and Intelligence service in addition to 10 appeals submitted to the public prosecution as well as discussions talks with the Israeli police in which they requested to release the Martyrs’ bodies to bury them according to their religious beliefs.
Lawyer Mahmoud explained that various Israeli authorities refused the appeals and requests submitted claiming that it is not possible to release the bodies in light of the security situation in the city and detaining the bodies will deteriorate others from carrying out similar attacks especially that releasing the bodies and carrying out special funerals and burying them in well-known cemeteries that will become a “shrine” afterwards only promotes the “attacking” ideas for others.
Lawyer Mahmoud added that the lawyers’ staff refused to head to the Israeli Supreme Court during the last period to request releasing the bodies because of the seriousness of the matter and said: “It was possible the judges would refuse the appeal we submitted and therefore find a judicial precedent for Jerusalemite Martyrs to be buried in the numbers cemeteries”. He pointed out that until today there is no such decision against Jerusalemite Martyrs. Also, heading to the Supreme Court could obstruct any political effort whether it was announced or not.
He added that the Israeli police will commit to any decision issued by the Israeli Supreme Court for years.
Also, the Israeli authorities released the body of Martyr Hadil Awad last Friday which confirms that a decision to release Martyrs’ bodies has been taken.
In terms of conditions of releasing Martyrs’ bodies, lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud explained that another session will be held after receiving the final decision of releasing the bodies to discuss the releasing process. He explained that this matter has not been discussed in the last meeting he had with the Israeli Intelligence.
The occupation authorities continue to detain the bodies of 13 Jerusalemite Martyrs in which the first Martyr has been detained since October 8, 2015; note that among the detained bodies are the bodies of 4 children.
The Jerusalemite Martyrs whom bodies are still detained are: Thaer Abi Ghazaleh, Ishaq Badran, Mohammad Saeed Mohammad Ali, Mustafa Khatib, Hasan Manasra, Ala’ Abu Jamal, Baha’ Alayan, Ahmad Abu Sha’ban, Mu’taz Aweisat, Ahmad Qneibi, Mohammad Nimer, Omar Iskafi and Abdel Muhsen Hassouneh.

Palestinians in the Negev participated in the funeral procession of Muhanad al-Aqabi on Sunday morning after the Israeli authorities finally delivered his body to his family.
Sheikh of the Aqabi Tribe in the Negev in southern 1948 Palestine, Sheikh Said al-Aqabi said that the family refused some of the conditions for the delivery of his body and accepted others after which his body was handed over to his family at midnight Saturday.
He pointed out that the Israeli authorities put the condition that no more than 50 persons should participate in the funeral of Muhanad.
The Israeli authorities have been withholding the body of Muhanad since 18/10/2015 when he was killed by Israeli policemen after shooting and killing an Israeli policemen and a settler and wounding 11 others at the central bus station in Beersheba.
The Israeli authorities have since then turned down several appeals by his family for the delivery of his body that culminated with protests and a general strike for Arab schools.

The Israeli Intelligence Service agreed to hand over slain Jerusalemites’ bodies within the coming days, the lawyer Mohamed Mahmoud said Saturday.
In a session held in al-Maskoubiya police station, Israeli Intelligence informed the lawyer of its decision to hand over the Jerusalemite martyrs’ bodies to their families.
Over the past two months, the lawyer Mahmoud has sent, along with a group of lawyers, 80 letters to the Israeli Security Minister and submitted more than ten appeals to the Israeli public prosecution calling for the release of slain Palestinians’ bodies.
We didn’t appeal to the Israeli Supreme Court, the lawyer explained, for fear of losing the case and burying the bodies in what is known as the “Cemetery of Numbers" (a poorly managed site where many Palestinian bodies reportedly have been lost mainly due to negligence).
The Israeli police will stick to any order issued by the Supreme Court for years, he underlined.
“Handing over the martyr Hadil Awad’s body to her family on Friday confirms Israel’s serious intention to hand over all slain Jerusalemites’ bodies.”
Other meetings will be held over the few coming days to discuss Israeli conditions for handing over the bodies, the lawyer pointed out.
As part of its collective punishment policy against the Palestinian people, Israel has refused to deliver the bodies of 13 Jerusalemites including four children killed in occupied Jerusalem since the outbreak of Jerusalem Intifada on Oct.1.

At least five youths were shot and injured by Israeli gunfire during clashes that broke out in Beit Furik town, east of Nablus, Friday afternoon.
The clashes broke out when Israeli forces heavily fired tear gas bombs and live rounds at a local march in protest against Israel’s continued detention of slain Palestinians’ bodies.
A number of youths suffered moderate and serious injuries during the clashes.
Eyewitnesses affirmed that IOF soldiers broke into the town and stormed a number of homes amid heavy fire of tear gas bombs. Dozens suffered from effects of tear gas inhalation.
On the other hand, IOF closed the entrance to the town and prevented the inhabitants' movement in both directions as a punitive measure against the local residents’ daily protests.
National and local forces have called on Friday for mass participation in a popular march to demand the delivery of slain Palestinians’ bodies withheld by the Israeli occupation authorities.

Thousands of Palestinians took to al-Khalil streets on Thursday to push for the release of the bodies of citizens killed by the Israeli occupation army since the outbreak of the Jerusalem Intifada.
The marchers carried mock coffins of the slain Palestinians whose bodies have been withheld by the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) since the start of October.
Coordinator for the national campaign to retrieve the bodies of slain Palestinians in al-Khalil, Amin al-Bayedh, said the IOA has been seizing the bodies of 57 dead Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Occupied Jerusalem.
“Israel has no other way out. The dead bodies should be released”, he said. “But the IOA has been exerting pressure and trying by all means available to prevent autopsies.”
The activist called on the concerned authorities and the families of the slain Palestinians to stand up for their right to carry out an autopsy and provide evidence on Israel’s cold-blooded slaughters, medical negligence, and misappropriation of Palestinians’ organs.
Following the march, violent clashes flared up between the Palestinian youths and the occupation troops in Bab al-Zawia, in al-Khalil.
