![]() Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Member, Hanan Ashrawi, strongly condemned Israel's shelling and killing of three Palestinian minors, east of Khan Younis in the southern besieged Gaza Strip, on Monday.
Ashrawi condemned the "deliberate" killing of Khalid Bassam Said, 13, Abdullah al-Hamid Abu Daher, 13, and Muhammad Ibrahim al-Satra, 13, during an Israeli airstrike near Gaza's border as an "ongoing war crime." She stressed "The Israeli occupation army has been deliberately targeting and killing Palestinian children. This is a clear war crime in violation of international law and international humanitarian law." |
She added "Israel's continuous campaign of excessive and indiscriminate violence against the people of Gaza has persisted with impunity and has been emboldened by the US administration's strategic alliance with Israel."
The minors were killed for allegedly attempting to place a suspicious object near the security border fence with Israel, according to the Israeli army.
Ashrawi noted that since March 30th, more than 205 Palestinians, including at least 37 children, have been killed in Gaza, and thousands more have been injured by Israeli forces.
Ashrawi also warned that as long as the international community "remains silent, the decades-long injustice suffered by the Palestinian people will continue unabated."
"We believe it is time for governments worldwide to guarantee protection for the people of Palestine and effective accountability for Israel which includes serious punitive measures and sanctions."
She appealed to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to "assume a principled and just stand and press ahead with an official speedy investigation into Israel's egregious violations and flagrant war crimes being committed against the Palestinians."

Defense minister criticizes fellow ministers, saying they are 'deluded' for thinking an arrangement with Hamas is possible; 'without delivering the hardest blow we can, we won't restore the quiet or the calm to the south,' he insists.
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman criticized his fellow Security Cabinet ministers on Monday for backing efforts to reach an arrangement with Hamas instead of delivering a strong blow to the Gaza terror organization.
"Anyone who counts on an arrangement with Hamas is greatly mistaken," Lieberman said at a meeting of his Yisrael Beytenu faction. "My stance on the situation in the south is clear and well known, but unfortunately some members of Cabinet are deluded, and we already know from the past where such delusions lead."
Arguing Israel doesn't have to wait for the next flare-up on the Gaza border, the defense minister insisted that "There's no way to reach an arrangement with Hamas, and without delivering the hardest blow we can, we won't restore the quiet or the calm to the south."
"The majority of the Cabinet doesn't think as I do," he lamented. "I think that we should've already delivered such a blow several months ago."
Lieberman insisted the IDF has already presented the Security Cabinet with operative plans, quipping that anyone who claims otherwise, "I volunteer to buy him a pair of glasses and hearing aids."
"The Gaza border communities' residents are 100 percent right. This situation has been going on for seven months. We've exhausted all options. Nevertheless, some 40 rockets were launched at southern Israel over the past weekend, and this clearly cannot continue," Lieberman said in reference to the residents' protests that took place on Sunday over the rocket barrage fired at the Gaza border communities overnight Friday.
"My demand is clear—we cannot agree to the equation Hamas is attempting to create. They cannot continue receiving Qatari fuel and resort to violence at the same time, and this is why we have to use other measures.
"There is no need for a ground operation in Gaza, since we have enough means to restore calm without it. Even if we kill 40,000 Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists it is not worth losing one Israeli soldier," the defense minister stated.
Zionist Union Chairman Avi Gabbay said during his faction meeting that "The residents of the south have been living under constant rocket fire and Netanyahu remains silent. For the Gaza border communities' residents every weekend is a gamble—will riots erupt? Will rockets be fired or only 'several fires' will spark? Will houses be ruined or 'only a few people will suffer from anxiety'? Will Code Red alerts will sound or only black smoke will cover the skies?
"Hamas is playing the Russian roulette with the residents of the south, and Netanyahu says nothing," Gabbay concluded.

The Higher National Committee for the Return Processions and Breaking the Siege, said that the Palestinians will not bargain on their legitimate national rights, and reject the so-called Deal of the Century.
It added that “the world needs to understand that the Palestinian people will never trade their legitimate right for scraps of humanitarian aid and partial solutions, but are struggling to legitimate rights, not only to end the deadly siege on Gaza, but also for independence and liberation to live in dignity and liberty.

The Israeli occupation forces began on Monday large-scale military drills on the Gaza border and the northern Jordan Valley.
The Israeli army spokesman said sounds of heavy explosions and buzzing will be heard all the way through the maneuvers.
The preplanned exercises reportedly make part of Israel’s drill agenda for 2018 which seeks to buttress the soldiers’ aptitude in projected offensives.
Over recent days, tension has been running high in and around the blockaded Gaza Strip due to Israeli strikes on the enclave.
Overnight, three Palestinian children were killed after Israeli warplanes fired shells on the enclave.

There seems to be no cut to the streak of young Palestinians being killed by Israeli soldiers at the fence area separating the besieged Gaza Strip form the occupied territories.
Ashraf al-Qidra, spokesman for the Gaza Health Ministry, said three Palestinians were killed on Friday east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, identifying them as Nassar Eyad Abu Taim, 19, Ahmed Saied Abu Labda, 22, and 23-year-old Ayesh Ghassan Shaat.
He said Israeli soldiers also killed Muhammad Khaled Mahmoud Abdul Nabi, 27, east of Jabalia, about four kilometers north of Gaza City.
Jabr Ibrahim Abu Hamisa, 25, was also killed in an incident east of al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. The cause of the deadly event was not clear.
Tensions have been running high near the border fence since March 30, which marked the start of a series of protests dubbed “The Great March of Return.” Palestinian protesters demand the right to return for those driven out of their homeland.
The clashes in Gaza reached their peak on May 14, the eve of the 70th anniversary of Nakba Day, or the Day of Catastrophe, which coincided this year with Washington's relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.
More than 190 Palestinians have so far been killed and over 20,000 others wounded in the renewed Gaza clashes, according to the latest figures released by the Gaza Health Ministry.
Gaza has been under Israeli siege since June 2007, causing a decline in living standards as well as unprecedented unemployment and poverty.
Israel has also launched several wars on the Palestinian sliver, the last of which began in early July 2014 and ended in late August the same year. The Israeli military aggression killed nearly 2,200 Palestinians and injured over 11,100 others.

Muhammad al-Sirsawi, aged 12, who was killed by Israeli snipers while taking part in Gaza protests.
Since Land Day of this year, 30 March, 2018, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been regularly holding mass protests near the Gaza perimeter fence, in numbers ranging from hundreds to tens of thousands.
During the demonstrations, which are usually held on Fridays, under the title, “The Great March of Return”, some protesters approach the fence and Israeli occupation forces fire tear gas and live ammunition.
The protesters often respond by burning tires to block the vision of the Israeli snipers and throw stones at them, but their stones can hardly harm the Israeli soldiers who are always more than 200 metres away from them.
In just over six months, since this wave of mass protest began, Israeli forces have killed at least 205 people, including 31 minors, and injured more than 5,800, out of 22,000, with live fire. Most of the casualties posed no danger to Israeli troops.
Such a high number of casualties is a direct outcome of the shoot-to-kill policy that Israel employs along the Gaza perimeter fence, including during demonstrations held near the fence.
Although the lethal outcomes of this criminal policy are well-known, Israeli occupation authorities refuse to change it, remaining indifferent to the lives and deaths of Palestinians.
In fact, the prime minister and his government prefer to continue this hardline approach (with cabinet members arguing over the numbers – the minister of defense boasts of the many dead wounded while the minister of education demands even higher numbers).
The military executes this political directive, even safeguarding it with whitewashing mechanisms to ensure that, with the exception of very rare cases, no one will be held accountable for killing Palestinians.
Here is a sampling of testimonies that the Israeli rights group B’Tselem collected in its investigation of the deaths of four out of the 31 children killed up until 8 October 2018.

Israeli soldiers shot, on Wednesday evening, eight young Palestinian men, protesting east of Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesperson of the Health Ministry in Gaza has reported.
The eight wounded Palestinians were rushed to Abu Yousef an-Najjar hospital in Rafah.
Dozens of Palestinian youngsters also burnt tires, and launched fireworks towards Israeli sniper posts across the perimeter fence, while several others used laser pointers directed at sniper posts.
In related news, the army fired two missiles at an observation post, used by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, east of Rafah, causing damage.
The strike came as several Palestinian factions were meeting with Egyptian intelligence officials, visiting Gaza, to discuss the efforts to achieve calm along the border, in addition to the urgent devastating living conditions in the coastal region.
Since March 30, Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip — including families, women, and children — have gathered along the Israeli border to highlight their dispossession in 1948 and protest the growing humanitarian catastrophe.
Israeli forces have killed about 205 and injured 22,000 protesters, including women, children, disabled individuals, medics, and journalists, since the beginning of the Great Return March on Palestinian Land. Many have been shot in the back.
