Palestinian mourners hold the pictures of three children (from L-R: Nadine, Sabri and Farah Bashir) who were killed the previous day in a domestic fire during their funeral procession in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip on April 02, 2012.
The three Palestinian children, aged two, five and six, all members of the Bashir family, were found dead on April 1 in a fire in their room caused by a candle being used due to lack of electricity in Gaza, according to an emergency services official as the Gaza Strip's sole power station shuddered to a halt a week ago, running out of fuel just 48 hours after some 450,000 litres were delivered to the coastal strip from Israel.

Nasma Abu Lasheen 2
Killed 16 oct 2010
Toddler Killed by Blockade of Gaza
Nasma Abu Lasheen died on Saturday, October 16, 2010 in Gaza after Israel failed to issue her an urgent entry permit for life-saving medical treatment at Ha-Emek Medical Center in Afula, Israel. She was two years old.
Abu Lasheen, a young resident of Gaza diagnosed with Leukemia was referred for emergency treatment in Israel on October 6, 2010. When requests to the Israeli Army for an entry permit went unanswered for several days, the family contacted Physicians for Human Rights- Israel (PHR-Israel) for additional help. The very same day, on October 13, 2010, PHR-Israel contacted the Gaza District Coordination Office (DCO) demanding a permit be issued immediately to the baby and her father to enable their entry into Israel. A military approval was finally granted the next afternoon, on October 14, 2010.
Abu Lasheen's medical condition began deteriorating rapidly and by the time the permit was received, the treating doctor in Gaza, Dr. Mohammad Abu Sha'aban, said she was too sick to travel. Nasma died in the early morning hours of October 16th.
PHR-Israel has lodged a complaint with the head of the Israeli DCO demanding an immediate inquiry into those responsible for the delayed response.
Abu Lasheen's death comes just days after PHR-Israel testified to the Israeli Turkel Commission investigating the Flotilla incident, on the humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip as a result of Israel's closure policy. In their October 13th testimony, PHR- Israel pointed to the rising numbers of Gaza patients denied exit for treatment in hospitals outside the Strip, a phenomenon that has intensified since Israel's closure policy worsened in June 2007. For patients, a delayed or denied permit could mean the difference between quality of life and preventable pain and suffering, and in some cases, even the difference between life and death, as demonstrated by the Abu Lasheem case.
PHR- Israel calls on the Israeli authorities at Erez Crossing to investigate those responsible for the delays involved in Nasma Abu Lasheen's case. PHR- Israel reiterates its demand that Israel fulfill its obligations vis-à-vis the residents of Gaza by ensuring them full and timely access to medical treatment not available in the Gaza Strip.

OPERATION CAST LEAD 27 DEC 2008-18 JAN 1009
Yusef a-Daiyah 2
Killed 06-01-09
Killed by mortar fire that hit the street next to UNRWA’s al-Fakhura school, in the Jabalya refugee camp, where persons had gone for refuge having been forced to leave their houses. Cast Lead
On 27th of December, 2008, the two-and-a-half-year old Yousef has complied to the Israeli orders to stay at home. He did not play with his bike in the street after it had been the dearest thing to his heart.
On 6th of January, Yousef lost his precious life when an Israeli air jet launched an F16 missile, targeting his home. Yousef and his family that was consisting of his parents, three siblings, grandpa, grandma, paternal aunts and uncles with their wives and children. Yousef’s little body was buried under a heap of rubble which was one day his beloved home.
Yousef’s father still remembers his dear boy who insisted to get down to the street to play with his bike at six am. His father said:”It was so early but he insisted on going out to play with his bike. I gave up and agreed. He rushed to call upon his cousin Sharaf but I did not let him wake up his uncle at that time. So, he insisted on going out to play with his bike alone as he usually did. He really loved playing with his bike. He would give his sister, Amany, a hard time in carrying his bike up and down the stairs, but who could say no to our family’s blue-eyed boy.
Young Yousef loved listening to the pulse of the fetus that was inside his mother’s womb. His mother was so happy with her coming baby and intended to call him Firas. Yousef shared his mother’s love and anticipation for the new baby or for “Bobo" as he called him. His mother used to encourage him to love his younger brother dearly and not to feel jealous of him.
Yousef’s father anxiously waited for his young child to grow up so that he would be able to walk by his side on the street full of pride of his beloved son. He said:” His hair was so pretty and I did not want to have his hair cut. Everybody loved the way it looked. His mother wished that her little angel to grow up fast and go to school so as to be as good as his sisters and cousins in memorizing the Holy Qur'an. She also hoped that one day Yousef would be a teacher. But now he has gone. The Israelis have taken our baby away as along with our dreams and hopes.” Yousef’s uncle, Rida, said:” Yousef was the apple of his grandfather’s eye; he accompanied him everywhere. His grandfather used to buy him chips and candy and would take him everywhere he goes… He also won the heart of his grandmother as well. He was extremely a beautiful and a bright kid.”

‘Azzah a-Samuni 2
Killed 05-01-09
Killed in a-Zeitun neighborhood when soldiers ordered the extended Samuni family to gather in the house of one of the family members. The next morning, the house was bombed and collapsed on its occupants, killing 21 of the family, and injuring many. Cast Lead
The following is a translated transcript of the appeal from Helme Samouni:
"On behalf of the surviving members of the Sammoni family and the hundreds of other families in Gaza who have been killed by war crimes committed by the Givati Brigade of the Israeli Army, we are shocked and disappointed by the decision of De Beers to present the Queen of England with a diamond manufactured by the Steinmetz Diamond company -- a company which supported the Givati Brigade during the Israeli war on Gaza late 2008 as they murdered 29 members of our family in cold blood. We the Sammoni family call on the Queen of England and the British people to decline this gift. We demand that De Beers be instructed to remove this offensive blood diamond display immediately.
Diamonds that generate revenue used to fund a regime guilty of war crimes are de-facto blood diamonds.
We call on De-Beers to show respect for the surviving victims of the diamond-funded Givati Brigade's actions in Gaza and remove the Forevermark Steinmetz Jubilee diamond from the Tower of London.
We call on Steinmetz Diamond company to end all support for and association with the Israeli military and to make reparation to the Sammuni family and the other victims of the Givati Brigade's actions in Gaza during Operation Cast Lead.
The Israeli human rights group B'Tselem describes the massacre of 21 members of the Al Samouni family as follows:
"On 4 January 2009, at the start of the ground phase of operation Cast Lead, about 100 members of the extended a-Samuni family were huddled inside one house in the a-Zeitun neighborhood of Gaza City. The next morning, an Israeli airstrike killed 21 people inside the house, including 9 children and 10 women, and injured dozens of other family members. During the next two days, the army refused access to medical teams, in spite of being informed of the terrible outcome by family members who managed to escape the bombed home and human rights and humanitarian organizations, including B'Tselem. When medics managed to get to site, they found four small children next to their dead mothers in one of the houses, and evacuated several wounded people. The army refused permission to evacuate the bodies and they remained in the rubble for a further two weeks."
A UH Human Rights Council investigation concluded that Israeli forces committed serious war crimes and possible crimes against humanity.
The Sammoni family, 29 members of which were killed by the Israeli military in Gaza in 2009, have issued an appeal to the British Queen to remove the Steinmetz Forevermark Jubilee Diamond which De Beers put on display in the Tower of London to mark the Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilee.
In total, 29 members of the Sammoni family were killed by the Givati Brigade of the Israeli army during the Israeli assault on Gaza (Operation Cast Lead) in December 2008 – January 2009. 21 were killed in a single airstrike on a building in which the family were taking cover, and 8 others killed during the course of the 23-day-long attack. The Steinmetz diamond company has "adopted" a Unit of the Givati Brigade which it funded and supported during the brutal assault on the people of Gaza.
In the appeal, posted to YouTube today, Helmi Sammoni, speaking on behalf of the family said: "On behalf of the surviving members of the Sammoni family and the hundreds of other families in Gaza who have been killed by war crimes committed by the Givati Brigade of the Israeli Army, we are shocked and disappointed by the decision of De Beers to present the Queen of England with a diamond manufactured by the Steinmetz Diamond company – a company which supported the Givati Brigade during the Israeli war on Gaza late 2008 as they murdered 29 members of our family in cold blood. Background
In one of the most despicable example of gross human rights violations recorded during the three weeks of the attack, twenty one members of the Sammoni family - innocent and defenceless children, women and men - were killed by the Givati Brigade in a single incident. The Israeli human rights group B'Tselem describes the incident as follows:
"On 4 January 2009, at the start of the ground phase of operation Cast Lead, about 100 members of the extended a-Samuni family were huddled inside one house in the a-Zeitun neighborhood of Gaza City. A UN Human Rights Council investigation concluded that Israeli forces committed serious war crimes and possible crimes against humanity during Operation Cast Lead.
Sean Clinton, coordinator of the Boycott Israeli Blood Diamonds campaign for the Boycott Israel Network (BIN) and the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) stated: "Diamonds that generate revenue used to fund a regime guilty of war crimes, in this case Israel's apartheid regime, are de-facto blood diamonds. We call on De-Beers to show respect for the surviving victims of the diamond-funded Givati Brigade's actions in Gaza and remove the Forevermark Steinmetz Jubilee diamond from the Tower of London."
