who was pronounced dead at a hospital in Hebron shortly thereafter.
Following the killing, crowds gathered outside the mosque, which has been a flashpoint since a 1994 massacre of Muslim worshippers by a New York-born right-wing Jewish doctor led to Israeli authorities taking over half of the mosque and turning it into a synagogue for Israeli settlers.
Crowds shouted at Israeli police and soldiers, and Salaymeh's family joined the impromptu protest. Salaymeh's brother was taken into custody by Israeli troops during the protest, and his father was wounded by Israeli forces who attacked the demonstrators with tear gas and concussion grenades.
Wednesday's shooting follows an attack by Israeli forces on a non-violent demonstration in Hebron less than a week ago in which a dozen Palestinians were wounded.
It is the second killing of a Palestinian by Israeli forces this week in the West Bank.

According to the newspaper, Israeli security services allowed to publish the video.
An Israeli army spokesman expressed that the video was allowed to be published due to the fact that the Palestinian first attacked the border guard, proving that the shooting by the soldier was the proper thing to do in order to protect the lives of soldiers who were stationed on the checkpoint, as he claims. Contradictory versions from the same soldier... Comparisons of stories from Israeli different media are put within analytical perspective, opinions contradicted and oppositions varied. |
The Israeli soldier expressed: "I was guarding at the inspection point as usual and a suspicious Palestinian approached the point, a fellow soldier asked him to identify himself and give ID"
Then she added: "at a later point the youngster pulled out a gun, I realized I had to react within seconds or something will happen to my fellow soldiers, and so I did"
The soldier also expressed in contradictory statements, on a voice record published at "Yediot Ahronot" page: "a fellow soldier asked the Palestinian for ID, and he pulled out a gun instead. So I instantly shot shim with no fear or hesitation".

On a different statement to Maariv, the Israeli soldier said: "the Palestinian handed his Identification card to a fellow soldier who asked me to run a check on it, and then I noticed he had a gun hence I shot him"
The Soldier also claimed that she did not have the time to arrest the youngster as her concern for her colleagues was taking over. She also expressed that she did not realize it was a toy gun with the martyr Salayma , while primary Israeli investigations proved it was. A video with another tragic version No media means or official military sources, nor even the same soldier did mention any attempt of the soldier being attacked by the martyr Salayma, however the video Yediot Ahranot published on Monday shows the martyr |
attempting to attack the soldier. It's worth noting that the video has uncertain features on space, time or even people.
Is this video real??
Among this analytical perspective of different versions of Israeli media for the story, this video showed a version of the story that is completely different from what all that was described.
A possibility can't help but impose itself: if the video was legit, why didn't the Israeli security services publish it when there was a media onslaught on the killer soldier, and why didn't the soldier herself declare usage of the video to defend her position?

Occupation grants soldier who killed Salaymeh a medal of honor
The Inspector General of the Israeli occupation Police, Yohanan Danino, granted the Israeli soldier who had killed the youth Muhammad Salaymeh a medal of honor.
The Israeli soldier had shot Martyr Salaymeh, 17, in mid-December last year after he had not responded to her call, as he suffered hearing impairment.
Yohanan Danino commended the ability of the soldier to "successfully" deal with the situation, according to his claims.
The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas in the city of al-Khalil had condemned the killing of the martyr Salaymeh.
