PNN reports that, according to press sources, Israeli F-16 warplanes flew through the atmosphere of the sector in the early morning hours and, at low levels, launched intensive military exercises, using heat balloons.
The sound alone was enough to spread panic and terror amongst Gaza's citizens, especially the youngsters, as approximately 1/4 of the victims killed in last summer's invasion were children

Dr. Ahmed Bahar, first deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, has warned that Gaza is on the verge of explosion due to the delay of reconstruction and tightening of the siege.
Bahar said during a meeting with the Jordanian MP Mohammad al-Dewaymeh on Sunday that the situation in Gaza has reached a critical level due to the Israeli, international and sometimes local obstruction of Gaza reconstruction.
He called on the international competent authorities to rectify the situation in the Strip before it is too late.
Bahar referred to other harsh conditions in Gaza such as the closure of border crossings and the exacerbation of the power crisis. He demanded PA president Mahmoud Abbas to allow rebuilding of Gaza and to work on ending its crises.
For his part, the Jordanian MP pointed to Jordanian and regional efforts for Gaza reconstruction and to the establishment of the Arab Organization for Relief and Development that has been formed to support the Palestinian people.

The aid fund for the families of the martyrs and the wounded said it had decided to close all its branches in the Gaza Strip until the security authorities captured the assailants who had ransacked its main office on Saturday evening.
Anonymous persons yesterday broke into the main headquarters of the fund in Gaza, which is an affiliate of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and wreaked havoc on its furniture and equipment.
However, director of the Gaza fund Mohamed al-Nahhal pointed out that internal disputes could be behind the incident and urged the security authorities to find the perpetrators.
For her part, head of the fund Intisar al-Wazir strongly denounced the break-in, affirming that the Gaza branches would not be reopened before the criminals were arrested and brought to justice.
She condemned the incident as a flagrant assault on all families of the martyrs and the wounded who are served by the fund.

UNDP director in Gaza Basel Naser said Thursday that the Program and the Palestinian housing ministry received only five percent of the 200 million dollars pledged for the reconstruction of homes for non-refugees in Gaza.
According to a survey conducted by the UNDP, at least 30,000 houses, belonging to non-refugees, sustained damage in the last Israeli war on Gaza. Naser told a news conference held in Gaza.
3,300 of those homes were completely destroyed while the others sustained different levels of damage, he added.
The UNDP, in cooperation with the Palestinian union of commercial, industrial and agricultural chambers, was assigned to survey the damage inflicted on homes that belong to non-refugees, and on the economic and industrial sectors, the Program official said.
He pointed out that 5,000 economic and industrial establishments sustained damage in Gaza.

A UN agency tasked with providing aid for Palestinians will suspend its activities in the war-torn Gaza Strip due to a lack of funds.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) will suspend its aid program in war-torn Gaza by the end of January, by which time it will have run out of money for the aid activities in Gaza, UNWRA spokesperson Christopher Gunness said on Thursday.
Gunness said that UNRWA had received only USD 135 million out of the roughly USD 720 million needed for its emergency operations to reconstruct damaged houses and provide shelters for displaced people in Gaza.
“Because of this shortfall, we’re going to be forced to suspend the program by the end of the month,” Gunness told Reuters. “Our concern is the humanitarian impact this would have on the people of Gaza.”
Meanhwhile, aid agency Oxfam has said that heavy winter storms, power outages, and fuel and cooking gas shortages have deteriorated the situation in Gaza.
“Many people are still displaced, many still lack heating and lighting and simply don’t live in adequate conditions, more than six months after the end of the war,” said Oxfam spokesperson in Gaza, Arwa Mhanna.
Israel unleashed attacks on Gaza in early July 2014 and later expanded its military campaign with a ground invasion into the besieged Palestinian territory. The war ended in late August that year. Nearly 2,200 Palestinians lost their lives and some 11,000 were injured.
In recent months, heavy flooding has also forced thousands of people, already grappling with the destruction from the Israeli war, to leave their homes in brutal cold. The destruction of the only power plant in the besieged Gaza Strip has also worsened the dire living condition for people.
Gaza has been blockaded by the Israeli regime since 2007, causing a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

Turkish president Recep Erdogan strongly denounced the international passive attitude towards the killing of 2,500 Palestinians, mostly civilians, in the Gaza Strip in 2014.
Addressing the Parliamentary Union of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul on Wednesday, Erdogan said the UN ignored the killing of civilians in Gaza, while the European Union acted as if they did not know about that.
"Unfortunately, the humanity has preferred to remain silent on [Israel's] state terrorism and killing of children," he underlined.
The Turkish president also criticized the Western world for its double standards when it comes to the Muslims' holy sites and symbols compared to its sensitive dealing with the issues of the Jews.
He stressed that those who hide behind the freedom of expression scarecrow must know that their ugly drawings about the Prophet of Islam offend and anger the Muslim Nation and spark incitement, calling for curbing the growing violence against the Islamic world.

A new report has found that Israel’s indiscriminate military offensive during its latest war on the besieged Gaza Strip, this past summer, caused more civilian casualties than previous acts of aggression against the coastal enclave.
The report, which was partly commissioned by Physicians for Human Rights and conducted by eight independent medical experts, showed that the Israeli regime did not differentiate between military targets and civilian populations during its latest assault on Gaza, according to Press TV/Al Ray. “Attacks were characterized by heavy and unpredictable bombardments of civilian neighborhoods,” said the 237-page report, which was published on Tuesday. |
In many cases, double or multiple consecutive attacks on a single location caused many civilian casualties as well as injuries and deaths among rescuers, the report added.
The Israeli military failed to give adequate warning for Palestinians to leave residential areas before assaulting them, the report said, adding that the Tel Aviv regime’s “early warning” procedures were not consistent and, often, did not give enough time for evacuation.
The report also pointed to suspected violations of humanitarian law and indiscriminate attacks which left medical workers dead, and urged a full investigation into the 50-day offensive.
The study was based on visits to the Palestinian territory during and after the Israeli aggression.
It also used interviews with 68 people who suffered injuries during the war, as well as autopsies on nearly 400 people killed and the review of medical files.
Israel officially began their most recent military assault on Gaza in early July of 2014, and later expanded its military campaign with a ground invasion into the besieged Palestinian territory. The war ended in late August that year. Nearly 2,200 Palestinians lost their lives and some 11,000 were injured. Over 100,000 were left homeless.

Austria confirmed Wednesday its efforts to provide all necessary needs of the Palestinian people especially in Gaza Strip.
Austria’s representative to the Palestinian Authority Andrea Nasi visited yesterday a number of water facilities in Gaza in light of the accurate water crisis witnessed by the besieged Strip.
Vice President of the Palestinian Water Authority Rebhi Sheikh has briefed the Austrian diplomat about the problems faced by the water authority.
Both the Palestinian and Austrian officials discussed ways to reduce water crisis implications on the people of the Strip.
In this matter, Sheikh expressed gratitude to the Austrian government for its continued efforts in favor of water projects in Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, a Swiss diplomatic delegation, headed by the Swiss deputy ambassador to the Palestinian Authority Jonas Ghaith, met on Wednesday the undersecretary of Finance Ministry in Gaza Yusuf Kayali over the Palestinian funds allocated for Gaza in 2015.
Both parties have discussed during the meeting the Gaza-based ministries' difficulties in acquiring funds for operating expenses in Gaza Strip as they are not included in the 2015 budget.
Switzerland plays an important role to integrate Gaza former government’s civil servants along with the PA employees after PA’s rejection to pay their salaries over the past six months.

Israeli gunboats on Wednesday evening opened machinegun fire at Palestinian fishermen and their boats in the sea off the coast of Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip, with no reported casualties or material damage.
The Palestinian information center (PIC) was told that Israeli gunboats opened fire, with no reason, at the fishermen prompting them to go back to the shore.
The Israeli occupation navy attacks Gazan fishermen and their boats almost on daily basis in violation of its Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian resistance last August.

The Palestinian agricultural sector in Gaza has incurred no less than $450 million in losses due to last summer’s Israeli offensive on the blockaded coastal enclave.
A report issued Tuesday by the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute-Mas warned of the high levels of food insecurity in the besieged Gaza Strip compared to 2013, when over 1/3 of Gaza’s families suffered from food unavailability.
The report attributed the upsurge in food insecurity rates to the latest Israeli aggression on the coastal Strip, resulting in malnutrition, price inflation, and low per capita incomes.
MAS said the eight-year-long Israeli blockade on Gaza pushed unemployment rates up to 45%, due to the strict restrictions Israel imposes on Palestinians’ free access in and out of the Strip.
While 57% of Gaza’s families had no food security before the Israeli war in July 2014, says MAS, things have now gone much worse as the potential for recovery in agriculture – the major component of food security – remains unclear, especially that losses have been officially estimated at 450 million dollars so far.
Thousands of homes were destroyed or partially damaged in the latest Israeli aggression on Gaza, killing over 2,100 Palestinians and leaving around 200,000 others homeless.

Ghalya Abu-Rida 74
During the Israeli bombardment and shelling of the Gaza Strip last summer, an Israeli soldier approached a 74-year-old Palestinian woman Ghalya Abu-Rida to give her a sip of water. He gave her the water, took a photo with her and then he shot her in the head from a distance of one metre. He then watched as she bled to death, the Palestine Information Centre reported. This is how Ahmad Qdeh, a journalist in Al-Aqsa TV, described the scene that he witnessed during the latest Israeli aggression. The spokesman of the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, shared the photo of an Israeli soldier holding the water bottle and helping the old woman drink as an example of the “humanity” of the Israeli army towards the civilians in the Gaza Strip. |
The field executions were among the stories Qdeh reported during the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip. He said: “Ghalya Ahmad Abu-Rida lived in the Khuza’a area in the east of Khan Younis city. I live in that area too and I made a television report on her story after the Israeli soldiers executed her during the aggression.”
“During the aggression, an Israeli soldier approached the old woman and took a photo for another soldier while giving her water. They then executed her by shooting her in the head from a distance of one metre and let her bleed until she died,” he added.
Ghalya was born in 1941. She lived by herself in a room near her brothers’ house in the Abu-Rida neighbourhood of Khuza’a. She had no children. Her neighbourhood was one of the first places invaded by the Israeli army during the aggression.
Field Execution
Majed Abu-Rida, Ghalya’s nephew, confirmed to the media that his aunt was visually impaired and could hardly see. He said that the Israeli army had falsely claimed humanity while executing his aunt in cold blood.
Ghalya, with her weak body and white hair, refused to leave her house after the Israeli army ordered the residents of Khuza’a to evacuate. She thought her old age would protect her from being a target so she stayed in her home and refused to join the majority of the residents who left the area as the invasion began.
On 3 August, the Israeli forces announced a truce and allowed medical staff to reach the Khuza’a area. Ghalya was found dead after she bled to death as she was shot in the head near her house, Al-Aqsa TV confirmed to MEMO.
Her brother confirmed that the photo shared by the Israeli army supported the family’s belief that Ghalya was in the hands of the Israeli army. The family also believed that the area in which Ghalya appeared in the photo and in which she was found asserted that the Israeli forces killed her after taking the photo for the media.
Misinformation
Professor of media at the universities of Gaza, Ahmad Al-Farra, said: “The photo the Israeli army spokesman shared is misleading propaganda by the Israeli army to present a humane portrait of its soldiers. It can enhance the opportunity to pursue the Israeli army’s soldiers as war criminals before the International Criminal Court.”
“This photo proves the confusion of the Israeli army spokesman in defending his army. It proves that they killed civilians,” he added.
He continued: “The Israeli occupation lies and misinforms in an attempt to affect international public opinion. It exploits the Arab media and Palestinian diplomacy in exposing the Israeli occupation’s crimes.” He demanded launching a large campaign to expose the Israeli lies and falsifications.
Al-Farra stressed the need for a media enlightenment campaign to go side by side with the field battles to correct the false image that Israel presents about its army and the resistance.

Israel carried out a 51-day war that claimed the lives of around 2,200 Palestinians and wounded around 11,000 others.
The development comes as a recent report by the Israeli military showed that the number of the Israeli soldiers who committed suicide doubled in 2014 due to the psychological effects of the war.
According to the January 2 report, a total of 15 Israeli soldiers took their own lives last year, more than double the seven suicide cases in 2013.
Israel unleashed attacks on Gaza in early July 2014 and later expanded its military campaign with a ground invasion into the Palestinian territory. The war ended in late August that year. Over 2,130 Palestinians lost their lives and some 11,000 were injured. Gaza Health officials say the victims included 578 children and nearly 260 women.
According to Israeli sources, more than 70 Israelis, including 63 soldiers, were also killed. Palestinian resistance groups, however, put this number at more than 150.
Many in Israel believe that the regime failed to score a clear victory in the offensive, which took a heavy toll on Tel Aviv.
