Al-Qassam Brigades fighters
Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Zahhar Hamas said that Hamas is prepared to accept a temporary ceasefire with Israel lasting six months, to begin in the Gaza Strip. The deal would then extend to the West Bank under Egyptian mediation. Israel had refused Hamas' demands that the cease-fire apply simultaneously throughout the Palestinian territories.
Al-Zahhar told a press conference in Egypt that a Hamas delegation had informed Egyptian intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, that the ceasefire must be reciprocal and Israel must lift its blockade of the Gaza Strip and re-open all crossing points, including the Rafah crossing point into Egypt. But if Israel rejects the ceasefire, Egypt will re-open the Rafah crossing point.
"Omar Suleiman, the Egyptian intelligence chief, will invite whichever Palestinian factions Egypt sees fit to the country next Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the Hamas proposals and then when the Palestinian factions have agreed to the terms of the ceasefire, Suleiman will contact the Israeli side to ensure that they are committed to the ceasefire and fix a starting time," Al-Zahhar told reporters.
"Egypt has promised to start immediate contact with the Israeli side to prepare the ground for the ceasefire and to provide basic needs to the Gaza Strip, especially fuel. In addition, Egypt will contact Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, to make sure his rival Fatah faction does not obstruct the opening of the crossing points," Zahhar added.
Al-Zahhar concluded by saying the ball is now in Israel's court. If they do not meet their obligations under the ceasefire by stopping attacks and ending the Gaza blockade, then the Palestinians have the legitimate right to defend themselves.

Palestinian Prime Minister in the Gaza-based de facto government Isma'il Haniyeh on Wednesday reiterated that Hamas will only agree to a ceasefire with Israel if it is bilateral.
and establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 territories.
Speaking during inauguration of new children hospital in Gaza city, Haniyeh said, "Commitment to a ceasefire depends on the halting of Israeli aggression and ending the crippling siege on the Gaza Strip."
He also highlighted that Hamas would go ahead with the ceasefire deal on condition that all other Palestinian factions agree to it.
"After Hamas reveals its final decision to the Egyptians, the ball will be in Israel's court," Haniyeh said.
Haniyeh said Hamas' approval of a Palestinian state on the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 was nothing new.
"We agree on a Palestinian state on 1967 territories with Jerusalem as its capital, but free of Israeli settlements, adherence to the right of return of Palestinian refugees and no recognition of Israel," Haniyeh said.
The de facto prime minister said Hamas has three stipulations before the Palestinian people are asked to vote on the issue in a referendum. These are, inter-Palestinian reconciliation, inclusion of Palestinians in exile if possible and if not the Palestinian National Council should be restructured to include Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The third pre-requisite is that none of the inalienable Palestinian principles can be included in the referendum.

Hamas will give Egypt its final decision on an Egyptian mediated ceasefire between Hamas and Israel on Thursday, Hamas spokesperson in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Dr Salah Bardawil announced on Tuesday.
"A ceasefire in the Gaza Strip alone will have repercussions, but a comprehensive ceasefire will also have repercussions," he said, adding "the entire issue will be discussed in the meeting between Egyptian intelligence chief Umar Sulaiman and a Hamas delegation headed by Mahmoud Zahhar."
"Hamas has been examining the proposal after shuttle meetings in Damascus involving leaders in-exile as well as leaders of the movement from the Gaza Strip," Bardawil explained.
According to Bardawil, Hamas has stipulated a number of preconditions for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip: -
If the Palestinian resistance undertakes military operations against Israel in the West Bank, Israel can not retaliate for these operations in Gaza.
Any ceasefire in Gaza must be bilateral.
Answering a question whether other Palestinian factions in Gaza have agreed to a ceasefire, Bardawil said almost all of them are for a ceasefire, especially Islamic Jihad.
Zahhar and his delegation are currently in Damascus and are expected to return to the Gaza Strip soon.

The commander of the coordination and liaison administration for the Israeli military commented on Sunday on what he called the "allegations of lack of fuel for ambulances in Gaza."
Referring to the attacks by Palestinian military groups on the Nahal Oz and Kerem Shalom fuel and commercial terminals, Nir Press said those who carry out the attacks are only interested in harming the citizens of the Gaza Strip while Israel is attempting to help them.
"Unfortunately every day we see attempts by terrorist organizations aimed at aborting all opportunities for good relationships between Israel and its neighbors in the Gaza Strip, at the expense of the average citizens," he said.
Before the attack on Nahal Oz, fuel was brought daily into the coastal sector and continued even after two Israelis were killed when Palestinian fighters entered the Gaza Strip's Nahal Oz crossing point and began shooting at the workers on April 9.
However, there was another attempt to attack a fuel tanker, just two days after the fuel terminal was reopened, Press added.
He went on to say that there are large quantities of fuel in tankers on the Palestinian side of the Nahal Oz terminal, but for three weeks the Palestinians have refused to receive and distribute the supplies. These quantities could have provided fuel for ambulances, agriculture, fishermen's boats and other urgent needs, he added.
He concluded by saying that it is time the Palestinians realized that the "terrorism" that accompanies Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip is harming the Palestinian residents of the coastal strip.

Fadil Shana'a
There were two coffins in the funeral procession for Reuters cameraman Fadil Shana'a, one carried his lifeless corpse and the other his camera and his protective vest.
Many tears were shed at the funeral. During his career Shana'a also shed many tears as he documented bereaved mothers and children.
Twenty three-year-old Shana'a always went in pursuit of the truth and the last moments of his life were spent in pursuit of that truth. His dead body was found lying among dead Gazan children targeted by Israeli tanks in the area of Juhor ad Dik in the Gaza Strip. The last shot his camera documented was the artillery shell that killed him. The Israeli authorities said he was killed accidentally.
An eyewitness, journalist Yassir Qadih, said, "Reuters journalist Fadil Shana'a was killed while he was in a jeep which was clearly marked 'Press'."
"There was nobody around us except a group of children who we were going to film. There were no resistance groups in the area" he added.
Television footage showed the jeep, with large signs reading "Press" and "TV" with a gaping hole blown in the driver's side.
Reuter's editor Nidal Al-Mughrabi was working with Shana'a up until he was killed, "The last picture Shana'a shot was a shell and suddenly we lost contact which meant he had been killed."
"The last thing Shana'a filmed was benzene canisters in a gas station in the central Gaza Strip. Then we headed to film victims of the Israeli attacks on Juhor ad Dik. When Fadil picked up the camera and got out of the car, a tank shell ended his life," said Arafat 'Uwda, Shana'a's assistant.
Reuters stated on its web site that "Shana'a was covering events in the Gaza Strip for Reuters on a day of intense violence." "He had stepped from his car to film an Israeli tank dug in several hundred meters away, when an explosion killed him and two youths passing by. Video from Shana'as camera showed the tank opening fire. Two seconds after the shot raises dust around its gun, the tape goes blank - seemingly at the moment Shana'a was hit," the statement added.
"My colleague Fadil Shana'a was the best and most courageous cameraman, and he got on well with everybody. But this is the destiny of every photojournalist who conveys the truth," said Rami 'Ubaid, a photojournalist for Ramatan news agency.
Fatah leader Hazim Abu Shanab, described targeting journalists as a "great crime," affirming that Israel does not recognize the Geneva Conventions. "The world should know the truth, and this is the duty of journalists," he added.
Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said, "The Israeli occupation targets journalists in order to kill the truth and impose political plans through dismembered limbs."
Senior Islamic Jihad leader Khalid Al-Batsh said that targeting journalists was part of "the holocaust policy" announced by Israeli forces. "They kill journalists, children, women and elderly citizens without exception," he said.
Since the beginning of the Intifada in late September 2000, Israeli Forces have killed nine journalists, including an Italian and a British journalist, and have wounded at least 170 others.

Palestinian civilian wounded in Israeli attack on Gaza
Israel has no choice but to overthrow Hamas in the Gaza Strip and to attack the Iranian army which has "begun to deploy in the Gaza Strip," head of the Israeli national religious party Mafdal, Efi Eitam, said on Thursday.
Eitam told the Israeli radio station the Voice of Israel that Israeli army activity near the border with the Gaza Strip was necessary. He added that "it could be costly" if there was no explicit policy of military action inside the Gaza Strip.
Knesset Member (MK) Efraim Snieh from the Labor Party told the radio station that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip would be beneficial for Hamas rather than Israel, and instead Hamas should be suppressed. He said he expected fighting against Hamas to continue in the coastal sector because "only military might can topple Hamas."
