At approximately 10:00 local time, an 11-year-old child, Mohammed Yousef Abu Mazkour, from Rafah, was injured by shrapnel in the right foot after Israeli occupation soldiers fired at him.
According to PCHR’s investigations, the child was playing with his friends near houses that had been demolished by the Israeli occupation forces near Salah El-Din Gate on the border with Egypt, south of Rafah. Then, Israeli occupation soldiers fired at children when the area did not witness any clashes. The child was evacuated to Martyr Mohammed Yousef Al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah.
At approximately 10:30 local time, Israeli occupation soldiers shot dead ‘Aatef Mohammed Shehadeh Tafesh, 24, from Jabalya refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, with several live bullets in the head, the abdomen and the right arm. The Israeli occupation forces claimed that Tafesh was about to plant a bomb near “Nissanit” settlement, north of Beit Lahia. His body was handed to Palestinian officials in the evening after hours of detention by the Israeli occupation forces.
At approximately 18:45 local time, Israeli occupation soldiers fired at a number of Palestinian boys who were demonstrating approximately 150m away from the entrance to a settlement road east of Gaza City.
Mohammed Jaber El-Katanani, 17, from Al-Tuffah neighborhood in Gaza City, was wounded by a live bullet in the right thigh. Furthermore, dozens of demonstrators suffered from tear gas inhalation used against them by Israeli occupation soldiers.
Assassinations and Extra-Judicial Killings
This week, the Israeli occupation forces committed new crimes of political assassinations and extra-judicial killings, in the context of a policy adopted by the Israeli government. In two separate crimes, five Palestinians were killed in ways similar to those which the Israeli occupation forces and security services have used in the past months to carry out such operations.
In the first crime, the Israeli occupation forces assassinated Fawaz Bashir Badran, 27, from Deir El-Ghusoun village and resident of Tulkarm. On Friday, July 13, 2001, at approximately 14:35 local time, Badarn was going back home in the western part of Tulkarm after he had done the Friday prayer, when a car exploded as soon as he passed by it. Badran was instantly killed.
According to Palestinian official sources, the car was exploded by a remote control, and Israeli intelligence is responsible for the assassination of Badran. It is worth mentioning that Badarn, the sole son of his mother and father of three children, was an activist of the Palestinian Islamic movement. He had an M.A. in the Islamic Legislation from the Jordanian University and was a teacher in Al-Aqsa schools.

At approximately 07:00 local time, Israeli troops of “the border guard” chased a car with Israeli licence plates carrying Palestinian female labourers who were traveling from Al-Zhahereya (a village south of Hebron) towards Ber El-Saba’ in Israel.
After pursuing the car for several kilometers inside the “green line,” Israeli soldiers opened fire and killed one of the labourers, Rasmia Joudeh Subeih Jabarin, 38, with a live bullet to the head.
Another laborer said that she and 9 other laborers departed at 07:00 local time in an Israeli car for their work at a meat canning factory in Ber El-Saba’. When the car took a side road to avoid an Israeli military roadblock at Al-Zhahereya village, a military jeep of the Israeli “border guard” gave chase and subsequently opened fire, killing Jabarin. When Israeli troops were certain that one of the car’s occupants was shot, they stopped chasing the car and left the area, without having offered any assistance to the Palestinian labourers.
Jabarin, who was divorced, leaves behind a 13-year-old child. Her killing raises the number of Palestinian females killed by Israeli occupation forces since the start of Al-Aqsa Intifada to 15.

PCHR was informed that in the morning, Khalifa had symptoms of illness in the chest. He immediately took a taxi, driven by Mohammed ‘Abdel-Rahman Salah, 28, from his village to Jenin Hospital. When the taxi arrived at a military roadblock on the road to Jenin, the taxi driver informed Israeli occupation soldiers that he was carrying a person in critical condition, but was nevertheless denied passage.
The taxi driver attempted an alternate route, an unpaved and sandy road on which the taxi could not travel. The two called an ambulance of the Palestine Red Crescent Society. The ambulance arrived at approximately 08:25 local time, but Khalifa had already died. Normally, traveling between Faqou’a village and Jenin takes only ten minutes.
At approximately 12:30 local time, Ferial Mahmoud Younis Du’eis, 27, from Al-Malha village east of Tubas, was forced to give birth to her child at a military roadblock near the Israeli “Tsheva” military site. Shortly afterwards, the infant died.
In the morning, Du’eis traveled with her husaband in a taxi towards Shifa’ Hospital in Tubas. At approximately 11:00 local time, they arrived at the aforementioned roadblock, but Israeli occupation soldiers denied them passage. At approximately 18:30 local time, Israeli occupation soldiers positioned at a military observation tower at the border with Egypt adjacent to Block “O” area in Rafah, fired at a number of Palestinian children who were playing approximately 100 away from the border.
An 11-year-old, deaf and dumb child, Mohammed Fu’ad Abu El-S’oud, was wounded by a live bullet in the right foot. There has been a consistent pattern of Israeli soldiers firing at anyone who approaches the border; if there are no people there, the soldiers have often reportedly fired at houses and even birds perched on roofs, causing severe damage to water tanks and killing birds.
At approximately 19:00 local time, Israeli occupation soldiers in Nabi Saleh village northwest of Ramallah fired at Mahmoud ‘Ali El-Tamimi, 36, wounding him with a live bullet in the left thigh. The soldiers opened fire from the house of ‘Abdel-Majid El-Tamimi, which they had occupied the previous day. El-Tamimi was on his way from his house to his brother’s house.
When he was 3m away from the occupied house, Israeli occupation soldiers fired at him without warning and seemingly without due cause. He was evacuated to a clinic in Salfit town and subsequently transferred to Ramallah Hospital.

At midnight, Israeli occupation forces moved into the border area in Rafah. They demolished 29 Palestinian houses without any prior warning, leaving about 50 Palestinian families, comprising more than 300 people, homeless.
According to PCHR’s investigation, Israeli occupation forces, reinforced with 11 tanks and 4 bulldozers, penetrated 100-200m into Block “O” area at approximately 00:00 local time. The area, in Rafah refugee camp and near Salah El-Din Gate on the Egyptian border, is under the full control of the Palestinian National Authority. At the same time, Israeli occupation forces broke into Al-Barazil neighborhood, approximately 500m east of Block “O” area.
PCHR’s field officers reported that the encroachment lasted up to 04:00 local time on Monday, during which time the Israeli occupation forces completely demolished 18 houses and partially damaged one more, leaving 31 families, comprising more than 200 people, homeless. Israeli forces fired dozens of artillery shells and heavy- and medium-caliber bullets at Palestinian homes in the area, wounding six people. They were evacuated to Martyr Mohammed Yousef Al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah.
Panicked, residents had to abandon their homes with no opportunity to salvage furniture or personal belongings.
Four Palestinian civilians were among those wounded by the Israeli occupation forces:
1) Ra’ed Jamal Bahloul, 26, wounded by a live bullet in the right leg;
2) Jamal Mohammed Abu Taha, 30, wounded by a live bullet in the left arm;
3) Akram Harb ‘Aashour, 37, wounded by shrapnel in the right arm and the chest; and

His evacuation to hospital was obstructed by Israeli occupation soldiers positioned at a military roadblock at the entrance to the village. PCHR was informed that at approximately 20:00 local time, Haj Mohammed had difficulties in breathing. His family took him in a taxi towards a hospital in Nablus. When they arrived at an Israeli military roadblock at the entrance to Beit Fourik village, they were denied passage. After 15 minutes of argumentation, Israeli soldiers allowed their passage.
Nevertheless, Haj Mohammed died shortly after he arrived at the National Hospital in Nablus. Automobile travel between the village and Nablus takes only ten minutes under normal circumstances.

An Assassination in Jenin
On Sunday, July 1, 2001, the Israeli occupation forces assassinated three Palestinian civilian activists of the Intifada. At approximately 23:15 local time, a combat helicopter of the Israeli occupation forces bombarded a Palestinian civilian car that was traveling at the junction of Al-Jarba village on its way from Jenin to Tammoun village. The car was completely destroyed and its three occupants were killed. The deceased are:

5) Walid Rasmi Sadiq Bisharat, 20, from Tammoun village near Jenin; and
6) Sameh Nouri Dhib Abu Huneish, 22, from Beit Dajan village near Nablus.
Israeli media and governmental sources claimed that the three young men intended to wage attacks against Israeli targets and that the strength of the explosion of the car was attributed to explosives that were inside the car. However, according to investigations carried out by PCHR and other human rights organizations, the three young men were on their way back home after they had consoled the family of a Palestinian martyr in Jenin refugee camp. Investigations also proved that the car was hit by eight rockets.
It is worth mentioning that this crime was the second of its kind in one week, after Ussama Fathi Ibrahim Jawabreh, 29, from Nablus was killed in what is believed to have been an extra-judicial execution, when a public phone cabin was exploded on Sunday, June 24, 2001. Additionally, two children passing by, Malak ‘Abdel-Nasser Shabaru, 2, and her brother ‘Ammar, 4, sustained multiple shrapnel wounds.
According to PCHR’s documentation, this is the 17th extra-judicial execution committed by the Israeli occupation forces since the outbreak of Al-Aqsa Intifada on September 29, 2001. As a result of these assassinations, 19 Palestinian activists and 7 civilian bystanders have been killed. According to information and reports received by PCHR, the Israeli security services have attempted other assassinations, but these attempts either were hampered by Palestinian security services or resulted only in injury of those targeted.
One of the failed assassination attempts targeted Mohammed Ahmed Suleiman Bisharat, a victim of the most recent crime, on June 3, 2001. Bisharat was then driving his car in the eastern part of Tammoun village when a bomb, apparently planted by Israeli security services, exploded 5m away from his car. At the same time, an Israeli helicopter was flying over the area. It is believed that the helicopter detonated the bomb by remote control. Bisharat survived this attack.
Meriam Mohammed Ibrahim ‘Omara, 61, from Nabi Saleh village northwest of Ramallah, died when Israeli soldiers obstructed her evacuation to hospital after she suffered from a heart attack.
According to her son Bassam Mahmoud ‘Omara, he took her in his car at approximately 01:00 local time to Ramallah hospital after a physician in Beit Rima village checked her condition. Israeli occupation forces at three military roadblocks on the road to Ramallah held them up for approximately two hours. When they arrived at hospital, the mother died.
Early in the morning, Israeli occupation forces broke into Jaba’ village near Jenin. They raided a house in the village and arrested Mohammed Ghaleb Khalil Hamamra, 28, and his brother Mu’ath, 25. According to a member of the family, Israeli soldiers forced Mu’ath and his wife were forced at gunpoint to remove their clothes.
The two were detained nude for one hour. He added that Israeli soldiers stole jewels of the wife and three mobile phones.
4) Mohammed Ahmed Suleiman Bisharat, 28, from Tammoun village near Jenin;
